1957 Maico Blizzard on Swapmeet

I thought for a fair while over this little gem this morning but I came to the realisation that I just plain don't need it. It's a bloody good start for a pre 60/65 project for somebody. I think it's a 175 or 200 but it could be a 250 . 1957 Maico Scrambler, I have the original title, it has been in the family since the 70's
Motor turns over, mostly complete, air cleaner housing, one tank badge, and baffle are missing,tailight and headlight lens and are broken, has leading link front end, really cool seat and pin strip job, tank is straight.I can e-mail more pics if your serious.

Hi Mark, that is a nice looking near complete Scrambler Model.
I say definitely Scrambler, because it has gussets to brace the rear Shocky Towers, for one.
The road Blizzards did not.
From the books and literature I have, It looks original.

The seller should be able to ID the capacity from the plate on the steering head.
175 and 200 had the smaller diameter hubs,
This one has the larger hubs found on the larger capacities.
The cylinder casting is that of a 250, although it could be a factory bored 280(277cc) capacity Blizzard.
Yes it would be a gem to own, I can think of so many uses for such a bike.

No more bikes or projects for me though.

I put my mum into hospital yesterday, she is in dire straits.
Two of my best long term friends were canines and I put them down long before they reached this level of duress.

Mum in in advanced osteo collapse. Four compression fractures in her spine and a broken rib. she didn't even have an accident. She is just literally falling apart. Every day she lives now is just another day of extreme cruelty. Spinning me out a bit.

Sorry to hear about your old mum Mick. As you know my mum's going through a crap time herself so I know your heartache. The highlight of my mums day is me bringing little Reggie along to the hospital, they adore each other.....it's beautiful to watch.

thanks firko, I never thought she would leave home, but after weeks of this pain mum gladly conceded to an Ambo ride yesterday.

Its things of life that teach you about yourself. I don't want to see her suffer it out to four score and ten(Feb 15)
I feel really calm when I wonder how she could bow out. I only stress while watching her agony or thinking about it to much. Laws and order sucks cruelty. It makes me feel like getting a big line of harry stored ready in the freezer for when my time comes.

Anyhow, about the bike, you got to love that tank
It would be a pretty cool shortcut machine through every paddock across town registered Jigger thingy
Cool as, I love the pin stripping. Imagine how good it would look if it were new looking.

Hi Mick and Firko, feel for you boys, wife's Mum in the last stages of Alzheimer's . We take her Shiizu down to Melbourne 3-4 times a year so she can have a pat. I think he recognises her better than she him, but that goes with the territory. Jo loved the picture of Reggie! Off again when school finishes in a couple of weeks. Best of luck with the Mums fellas. In a bind, son having a hit out a the Vic swim champs but I planned to see the Troy Bayliss on the way home. Probably will catch the bikes and leave the son alone until the Comm Games trials.

Thanks Rossco, the little Reg has some serious issues of his own to deal with that require daily doses of some seriously tough medication which in the end will drastically shorten his life. Maybe it's because of his own problems that he has such a gentle demeanour around people who are old or ill. My mates wife is battling both cancer and a severe spinal problem and when I take him over there he sits on her lap and won't even acknowledge anyone else in the room. It's the same when I take him to the hospital, he can't get out of the car and into the ward quickly enough to see his old mum. He's also "adopted" another patient who's got Alzheimer's, he tries to jump up on her bed but the nurse or I lift him up and he lays there with his little noggin' resting on her lap and staring at her until he remembers his mum and needs to get back to her. He was 'unadoptable' because of his various cruelty induced conditions and would have been euthanized if it wasn't for the compassion of my god daughter who works at Katoomba RSPCA identifying something very special about the little guy. She offered him to me and the rest is history. My vet treats him for nothing on his weekly visit because she reckons he's an old soul in a new, slightly damaged body . Sorry to waffle on about Reggie but every day I take him to the hospital makes me understand what a special little dog he is. My 94 year old mum absolutely loves him and he loves her even more. He might only have a five year lifespan but he'll have left a pretty big impression for someone so little.  Watching it happen has made me a better person (I hope ).

Reg the wonder dog, long may he bring warmth to the world . Feeling your pain and hoping it all works out well.

My father (farmer) is house bound on "oxygen and power" and his old Blue Healer sneaks into the house and hides under his bed (he can no longer sleep in the same bed with Mum, to many leads!) till the lights are out then get up on the bed and sleeps at his feet. Mum knows and if they come face to face she scolds him and kicks him out, but she reckons that if he can make it to Dads room, then that's home base, he's safe.

What make me laugh, is that he's like a shot from a tank in the morning, as soon as that back door is unlocked he's out'a there and straight to a tree, leg up!!

just lost my Dad - he got me into Motocross and was still interested in my VMX efforts - make the most of it while you can guys.  Dad had got to the point in his life where he needed my help - sorta payback I thought for everyting he had done for me over the years.  :'(

Gentlemen, I'm a new member and while scrolling through the discussions I found this.  Interesting, I purchased this bike on New Year's eve.  As it turns out, the bike is a 1957 Maico 250 Scrambler and someone, probably the original dealer, added the headlight.  The first owner added the red paint and the pin-striping.  I had planned on building the bike to a modern GP style motocrosser that I could race competitively in Premier Lightweight classes however, with the rarity of the bike I now plan to restore it to original condition and race it at a slower pace.

I look forward to the group!
