An RM465Z  head gasket is 40 thou and the original 500 one is 20 thou so that would be the gasket you used SON?

I am not sure, if we supplied them out of spares stock,
Or maybe they came in a spares kit that had the 2nd head gasket and
An extremely restricted muffler,
My memory is a bit fuzzy on this,
Firstly I didn't assemble any of them
And quite often Norm would buy the entire shipment of a model that was from another market
Probably Canada who had stranger rules than OZ

Shelpi,   Pipe & muffler, air box & jetting & you got the best 2 stroke engine ever !!!

Awesome motor indeed.
Tremendous motor,
By modern standards and documented on this forum Combustion Chamber has a few free HP
Dean Burt has done some of the hard work .
When I sold the last of the D's as old stock we supplied a 2nd head gasket to knock off the compression
It then became easy to start, as gentle as a PE400 but still with a decent hit.
yep I agree, but never put one in a chair before, so please keep it all comeing. cheers

on the suzukirm500 website is an interesting article on the major big ones for theyear across the dyno - the RM was so close to the CR it wasn't funny - certainly not 7-10 behind?
Just went back over an article VMX #34 and it was less tha flattering, qoute- power and the RM didn't quite deliver in that department, soft off the bottom, bit better through the mid range, hit hardest in the upper-mid range then tapered off into nothing in particular. So no, didn't exactley scare the pants off the riders. the power delivery dictated that you had to ride it more like a strong 250 :-[ all power performance hp read outs are not good ???
Look to be honest I think the RM500 is a great motor so why are the larger percentage of articles bagging it?

Because most of us on vmx bikes need less power from a 500 rather than more mate
That's why the RM 500 is so highly rated,it makes nice smooth non scary power.
