Sadly I've had to pull the plug on my Bonanza trip and the debut of my Shell 750 Yamaha. My 94 year old mum had a severe stroke on Monday night and without going into too much detail she is in a pretty awful condition. This is the big stroke we were expecting but secretly hoped wouldn't come. Right at the moment bikes and race meetings are the furthest thing from my mind so my apologies to anyone I may be letting down. Bikes and races come and go but we only get one mum so I need to be with her on her final few hours/days/weeks.

No good at all Mark, good choice you're making. In the final weeks of my mothers life i chose to give up work and help my father nurse her at home as was her wish and he'd been doing for the previous 12 months, i'd leave there every day for about a month and say "see ya tomorrow mum" until the day came that she was no longer there to be seen. It's a choice that dramatically changed the course of my working and financial life that im still paying for, was it worth the sacrifice? You bet and im glad every day of my life that i used that time in the way i did, when mum passed i was 28 and she was just a few weeks over 60. They'll be another Bonanza to have what you'll miss out on this year, they'll never be anyone that replaces your dear old mum. Keep well mate, the sun shines even when it's hidden behind clouds, but its only seen by those who look for it  ;)

Mark you must stay with Mum. A very very proud of her son Mum. Thinking of you both. Tim Derrick.
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I hope everything turns out ok for you & your Mum Mark, I lost my Dad last week, he got an infection during an ankle operation and was gone two weeks later, I read the writing-on-the-wall and put my life on hold and slept at the hospital for his last week, he told me that he was so greatful that I stayed by his side, I am happy that I made his last week more comfortable, I know he would have been scared & depressed by himself.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad John. I got Golden Staph during an ankle fusion operation and came close to dying myself a couple of years ago. Your dads passing makes it more obvious just how random life is....some survive trauma, some go down. My hearts out to you mate.
I've been the principle carer for my 94 year old mum for 20 years and frankly it had worn me down. She was beginning to need more care than I could give her so I managed to find a great aged care facility where she'd been for a month until she had the monster stroke on Monday night. At first she hated the home but on Monday it seemed that she'd turned the corner and was starting to settle in. I'm so glad I had lunch with her, my aunty and her dog Little Reggie Firkin on Monday. I took the photo below after lunch and she looks happy with her beloved little mate on her lap and sister by her side......four hours later it all turned to shit......

Mum would of loved little Reggie Firkin being there Mark. I was carer for my grandparents and it is a heart wrenching task, especially when there are things you cannot do for them. My 3 sisters and mother wanted nothing to do with the whole situation other than tell me what they expected me to do, which made the task harder than it should of been. Nan had Severe Dementia and Gramps had emphycemia and depression. I lost my grandfather on my birthday and Nan went after a hip operation not long after. They're both in a better place now and I can rest easy knowing I did all I could to make life a bit easier for them. I no longer have anything to do with my sisters.....

Bad news about your dad John. It's uncanny how many people get infections from bone related surgery, in particular below the knees. Must have something to do with lower blood circulation down below the knee or something. I had my fibula and ankle rebuilt in 2003 with part of my hip and the help of metal plates and 13 screws. The surgeon, Brendon Klar told me that I could die from the operation. That put the wind up me as I had to wait nearly 2 weeks for the swelling to go down or my leg would open up like a zipper when they made the first incision. The operation went well and I've gotten 12 years out of it when Brendon told me to expect 3-5 years before needing to get my ankle fused. It was suggested that I get the plates and screws removed but I canned that idea as I was worried about infections and another 6 months of learning to use my ankle again. My lower leg swells up painfully now and it does get hard to walk but after reading about Marks experience, your Dads, and many others on the net, I think I'll deal with the discomfort for as long as I can before signing up for the ankle fusion.

Hang in there gents and keep the happy memories with you.
