DT2MX B on Aussie eBay........Geelong
« on: October 20, 2013, 11:20:33 am »
This hard to find DT2MX has been hiding on eBay disguised as something else. I was the first high bidder but now that it's passed my $600 limit I'll drop out and let someone who needs this bike have it. From the photos it appears to have most of the good bits to make a start for a full resto or to build a hotty.  8 HOURS TO GO!
                             http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331043714401?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Not sure what year it is. It has RT frame numbers.
Goes well, good tyres, sprockets & chain good. Good old classic racing bike, alloy rims.

Any inquiries ring Wayne on 03 52772726 after 6pm.

Agreed, it looks like shit. Nothing some new mudguards, side covers and a lick of silverfrost can't fix. Maybe then it might look like the below beauty, one of the prettiest MX bikes ever made IMHO.

Hopefully someone who doesn't already have a shed full of similar bikes buys it. If we want new blood or even VMXers from a different era to get into pre70/75, then the familiar faces putting it in the back of the shed helps no one.

Would have loved to have bought that Mark, but I have a lot on at the moment and would have had to have pushed it into the back of the shed, thereby incurring the wrath of the "you can't buy that and not use it police", as it is apparently the only pre 75 bike left in the world.

To all you early Yammie experts, what was not correct on this bike for a DT2MX? My very limited knowledge thought that the frame, forks, triple clamps, wheels, brakes, engine, tank, exhaust (not muffler of course), were all correct. Frame had a shock mount modification as did the swing arm. With the pillion pegs I believed the swing arm was a trail bike one, but don't know how else the MX one would differ. I missed out by $10 but would like to know more about them.
Cheers, Grahame

i think most of us knew the bike wasn't perfect but that sort of project is what im attacted to as the choice is there to either make it origional again or make a few personal tweaks here and there free from the guilt of modifying a concourse bike.
i reckon the frame/shock brackets could be easily ground off back to origional and i also reckon the pillion pegs are welded on extra's and also easily ground off.
apart from the missing side/number plates and the paint job, it's a great starting point for a classic...
good price i reckon...

Yes, it all becomes clear now. You didn't want any of the "familiar faces" bidding against you. Funnily enough, it appears that you have quite a collection yourself...

Nothing early to race Pete. I am keen on Yamaha's and thought a Pre 75 something would be nice.
When I put the first post up it was really thinking out aloud about how the early classes could keep going. If no new riders join the fields they will all dwindle. I didn't mean to offend anyone about bike collections. Bikes in sheds of people who know how to look after them is much better than most other alternatives. This is probably not the topic to continue this discussion.

Jeez we're getting picky. If you're half handy in the shed anyone could turn that bike into a fairly decent entry level racer for a grand on top of what it cost. Let's not forget that as pretty as the DT2MX is, it's not Yamahas finest moment but they reek cool.

No problem Grahame, I was talking with my tongue in planted firmly in my cheek. Shame you missed out on it though. Plenty of MX250's still around, I would think, and they are very easy to make competitive. IainYZ built a nice one a while ago for not too many dollars.
Pete.
