Have a modified 490 torque arm on mine, can't see me putting the original back on as the spherical bearing is unobtainable for the 465

If you want some details of what I did just ask me, not sure what 490 arm I used but any year should be fine you need to shorten it anyway

That would be great Tony !
Im onto a airbox (looks like its been shot by a 12guage) lol,
The rear backing plate has the eyelet broken off where the control arm attaches, fabrication time by the looks...

I'll take some photos of the original & new torque arm after I've won the last round of our clubs trials champs tomorrow & have washed the bike, will be easiest time to get the bikes out.
I cut the end with the spherical bearing off the 490 torque arm & machined up a new 1 that was same basic size as the original but left the hole at 21.5mm from memory, the end was made to be fitted up inside the arm which is hollow & the arm was shortened to get the centre distances the same as on the 465.
I welded in the new eye then reamed it out to 22mm to fit the bearing. Came out looking factory made & has the advantage of having a bearing that is easily gotten from any bearing supplier. The original spacers are used with O-rings used for sealing

Is the airbox you're looking a G or H, there is a fairly decent H model airbox listed in the states at the moment which may be the 1 you're talking about, I bought 1 that had slots cut in the side which I had cut out & a new section welded in, my original had a repaired airboot & I wanted a good boot so this worked out quite well

Same seller also has the 465 torque arm for $20us & a hub & brake plate as well, I have to look via the UK site as no used parts show up for me anymore on the US site even if I'm not signed in

Here is a thorough rebuild of a 465, damn good read and lots of detail including how to convert a 490 torque to fit a 465 ;)

I have also put it all into a word document, much easier to read and without all the irrelevant bits.  PM me if you want me to email it to you.

Thanks Tony , I`d be interested in a look for sure mate ..& yes that one of the airboxes im checking out , cheers  ;)

I sent you a pm Bishboy , sound like a intresting read for sure mate , thankyou...

And thankyou Jason for the heads up , any pics mate ? regards Glen...

Ok so I  stripped the motor down "head, clutch, stator" only & it has all new seal`s & everything is tight , upon pulling the flywheel off there was no woodruff key so I pulled the flywheel off another 3R5 bottom end to find the woodruff flopping around inside the keyway , in my opinion it has to be to small ? or is this a Yamaha thing ?

Also the original bike(YZ465) in discussion has a IT465 (Im guessing) stator , im just wondering because theres such a mixed bag of parts does the IT465 stator require the IT465  flywheel & the same goes for the YZ ?

regards Glen .

Photos of modified 490 brake stay

Fitted to bike

Modified arm at top, original 465 at bottom

Detail of frame end of stays

Eye width detail

Brake plate end comparison

Size of 465 spherical bearing casing 22.5mm

Size of modified stay spherical bearing 22mm using GE12E bearing

The same could be done to the standard stay by grinding off the welds & welding on new end with hole size finished after welding
