Z spokes
« on: October 15, 2013, 05:40:12 pm »
I have bought a 86 IT 200. The rear comes with Z spokes , which apparently are no longer available.

Is there another rear hub I can source that has conventional spokes. I have been told a 1977 / 1983 YZ 125 hub is the go. Any ideas.

I have joined the IT forum and will ask on there also.

Cheers

I know Ash's spoked wheels in Albion Brisbane can make new ones, I have also seen him modify the hubs to accept straight pull spokes.

I was told by a guy from a shop here in Sydney that they can also modify the hub to fit normal spokes. Unfortunately the young guy that was telling me left me with f..k all confidence in his ability, hence my question on appropriate hubs.

What is Ash's like? Do they do good work? Any contact details for them?

Ted, give Chivos at Granville a call. I'm pretty sure they custom make spokes to order. I called them last week and asked about a couple of spokes for my MX250, gave them the dimentions and they had them made by that same afternoon. $5 each, a bargain for that type of service.
The other guys at Peakhurst, didn't answer their phone, called me back a day later, said they would need the wheel, had a minimum order of $70, and would probably take a "week or so" to sort me out. Won't bother with that particular business again !!!

I can recommend Ash's in Brisbane for wheel spoking. Haven't had them modify any hubs however but they do know their stuff so I wouldn't be scared of talking to them about it and I am sure they will give you an honest answer. Good luck.

Ash did his time at JTR before moving out by himself, he and his business has stood the test of time, I send my wheels across the country(WA to QLD) because I know it'll be done right.....not cheap.
