PVL Ignition
« on: October 14, 2013, 04:20:25 pm »
Probably been asked a million times, but is a pvl worth the money for a 85' rm250.
I have bought 2 stators and a faulty new cdi from os and still getting a bad spark.
The price doesn't really worry me ,I just wont the bloody thing going.
Are they any good ? and how reliable are the rotors at staying put if they don't use the woodruff key. ?.
Thanks.
Can they be sourced in oz or only os. There is one on ebay at the moment.

I loves them bike starts everytime with little effort cheap as chips in my books. I buy from ebay or Penton site pay as little as $250 to $400. Down side little too no flywheel effect but cool for 250 MX bikes.
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

Way overpriced, out of date and were OK at a time when there was no alternatives. A YZ80J ignition is what I used to source before cheap and reliable programmable ignitions hit the market  ;) Failing that a 97 and beyond CR250 is a DC/DC ignition use that or you can wire a programmable to that. Which all up would cost less than the PVL.

(for the eleventy hundreth time) the taper holds the flywheel in place the woodruff key is for factories and hamfisted apprentices.

Thanks Lozza.
Does anyone know if the 125 and 250 rotors are different.
I have spark now but can not get the timming anywhere close.
I only have 3 125 rotors to try from.
I can only get it fire with the timing retarded so much it fires out the exhaust.
It's got me baffeld.

I've got a PVL on the Villiers - works so much better on throttle response without that big heavy flywheel.  The only problem I've found, and it seems to be fairly common, is that the spark can hardly be seen turning the engine over by hand.  I thought I had no spark last week after not having run the bike for ages.  After cleaning all contacts and earths in sight, I just gave it a good kick and away it went - yet the slow turnover is just a flicker.
