Now where did I see that 175 top end?
I know you're making a joke but unless you manage to find a rare (for Australia) MX175 top end I'd stick with the original. The DT175 barrel on my little bike had fairly rudimentary port timing and exhaust port compared to the MX 125 version and it's fairly mild in itself. A well known Sydney racer of the time raced an MX175 with 125 tank graphics in the 125 class and it didn't show any domination over the legal bikes. I briefly raced an MX125-B back in the early days of vintage and even though it was pretty slow with my fat arse on it in standard trim, I fitted a C/X model 6 speed bottom end and the extra gear made it a much better little bike. Of course, that little mod is illegal and I pretty quickly brought mine back to stock and sold it. I did, as Vandy suggested, fit MX250 34mm forks and triple clamps and conical front hub wheel (a bolt in from memory), decent shocks (I used Bilsteins), a better pipe and a Boyesen reed kit which really livened up the little bike. Engine wise the Yamaha is better than the TM125 and as good as the CR125 but like the Suzuki is restricted by its 5 speed box. As I wrote elsewhere....if the MX/YZ 125 had come with a 6 speed box in 1974, the Elsinore 125 might not have had such a solid place in motocross history.
