I'd like to see even a support race where they did race production cars around bathurst like the old days.

I do like fords but I know that it only looks like a ford the rest of it is all aftermarket gear I wouldn't mind a new fpv with sequential shift etc etc.

I think transponders have done us a disservice.
Don’t get me wrong, they are great and give the lap scorers a break but over the years they have seen racing numbers disappear into the background as no one is reading the numbers anymore.

Trouble is, as a spectator I can’t tell one competitor from another now, the cars are all a technicolour blur which isn’t helped by the fact that all the modern race cars look the same. They have so many sponsor stickers on their cars (or bikes for that matter) that you can’t see what colour the car is.
I wonder if the sponsors realize that when a car has so many different sponsor stickers that collectively we tend to not notice any of them.

Once upon a time you used to be able to see the HDT cars at a distance and see a big 05 or 25 on them, now I don’t know if I’m barracking for a Ford or a Holden till they stop in the pits.

Same with bikes, check out the side plates Husky have been using over the last few years, barely big enough for a sponsor sticker let alone a 3 digit race No.

Yeah I know, I’m getting old and shouldn't be watching without glasses.

Ok I agree with you about they all look the same (Im from the GTHO era no adds ) they where the days said the old fart . Mini 's , Cortina's , Torana's , 2 door Monaro's , Falcons , memories .

I understand if someone isn't enthusiastic about the V8 Supercars. I enjoy watching the old DVD's of classic Bathurst's, but the actual racing was nothing compared to what it is today. Now it is a 1000km sprint from start to finish. The last 30 laps this year was as good as you will ever see. Back when the cars were based on road cars, mechanical longevity played a major roll in who won, or was even competitive. In 1979 Brock won by 6 laps, hardly a race.
The argument that they are only Taxi's is juvenile crap. Within the closely controlled rules they are extremely developed race machinery. Even AMG Mercedes are performance enhanced versions of what is used in their native country as a Taxi.
Bathurst has a 12 hr production race each year. Nobody watches it nor does it gain any media support. The era of building production cars to win races is long gone.
Like I said at the start, not everyone loves car racing or Bathurst. I do, and am very glad it happens each year.

Also takes a lot of work to drive a heavy, powerful car at the limit around Bathurst for 1000km. Think the historic touring cars lap a minute or so faster than they did in the day

I watched the whole thing it is exciting to watch if you like racing no doubt the fact that so many finish on the lead lap with seconds or less between them over 161 laps is amazing.

The overtaking in the last part of the race was great to watch the last chance where whincup tried to get frosty I was on the edge of my seat.

I spose the thing people forgot the old cars were new technology then and were only raced in that guise because they didn't have the technology we do now if they did they would have used it.

I can't imagine trying to wrestle a gtho etc around the track but now they might handle better etc but it hasn't made the race easier only they just go a hell of a lot harder I haven't been to Bathurst I'd like to usually watch it every year though.

You can't really compare the current Touring Car Masters cars with the last of the Improved Touring Cars. For a start the chase wasn't in the track in 1972. The cars they race now may look like the old ones, but they have better engines, gearboxes, brakes and probably better tyres. Just the improvements in the materials available now makes a big difference.

As for the difference between the different V8 Supercars, the chassis and all running gear is common between them all. Only the body shape and engines are from each brand. This was forced upon the sport by the government concerns over the supercar scare.

Agreed  and as for great overtaking ,yeah takes balls of steel roll cage, 5 point harness and all that bodywork around you give me a break  my granny could do it while finishing her knitting 

V8 racing makes water polo look exciting .

The skill of the Australia and NZ drivers is equal to the best in the World and the track at Bathurst is one of the most challenging in the World. Please don't comment unless you have been to Bathurst and seen how step the track is. I have only been there once for races, at Easter on 1971 for the bikes and cars. I have also been to the MX track once for an Australian MX Championship round. Mt Panorama is a special place and deserves the praise it gets.

 I always went to Bathurst in the days when the bikes were on Easter Sat and the cars were on Easter Monday.
 Those days the 'Tin Tops' were what interested me but when they stopped being 'production car' races I lost interest.
 Now days the cars are straight out racing machines to a formula like F1.
 
This means to me it is a 'driver and team'event and is of value for that alone.
 
Like any form of racing nowdays I am only a good spectator when I'm watching someone I know riding or driving.

 The other point about the value of the Bathurst venue, it is to my mind probably the most technical track anywhere and no one could master it in one outing.
 
 Funny thing is I always thought I would race cars, but I got the bike bug at about 17yrs, where as my late brother was quite a spectacular and succesful car racer.

I will comment on what i want when i want, its a forum   Don't assume where i have and haven't been  i don't doubt the skill of Australasian drivers its the hype of those modified taxis i dont like . Been to the track and yes its spectacular and i assume you mean steep , just a shame its wasted on a one brand 2 badge race . Whenever they have let other brands into that race in they have kicked arse and been promptly kicked out . i would enter Gran but she prefers cars with some prestige and pedigree
