depends how far , usual rule of thumb long more torque, short more revs . but a little bit wont make 5/8s difference

I know the spacers on the DT \ RT 1 Yamahas had 2 types an enduro and A scramble . the scramble was about 10mm shorter hence the motor would rev better . Iain

 14 inches from bellmouth of carby to the valve seat (on a 4/) equals 4000rpm best.

From the front of the carb(bellmouth) to the reed tip is the most important on a reed engine. Disc valves and piston port have another usualy shorter number that works best.
