Maico 125 frame ID

The following Maico frame is for sale on Marks Swapmeet and it's raised the question in my mind as to just what the difference was between a "little" and "big" Maico frames are. I always believed that they were the same except for the mounts and a bracket or two but I now recall researching for my VMX article on the Maico 125 that the 125 frame is made from lighter tube. Can someone verify either way please?

Maico 125 frame. 881xxx VIN number. Very hard frame to find. It will need some work. It had a 400 engine mounted in it so two of the mounts will need to be moved. Will take a clean 400 frame as partial trade. $375.00

That it does Mike...that's why I always believed, rightly or wrongly, that they were the same. I've got a couple of the "big bike" frames but wonder if this is any different to them....they don't appear any different.

I can't imagine a firm like Maico doing special runs of lighter tubes just for the 125's
Pretty sure all the Europeans used the same frames for all capacities.

The only known difference on the 125 frame to me is the left hand footpeg mount is a bit further outwards to clear the rotary valve motor.

I had one here it was 5k lighter than a 74 400 frame
