Directional Knobby Tyres
« on: September 04, 2013, 02:59:37 pm »
Ok, I've put a new front wheel on the bike & changed the tyre. Noticed when I was adjusting brake that the tyre is directional & guess which way I have fitted it ( the wrong way). It's a metzler I think, does anyone know if it would make much difference ?

And to those of you who have seen me ride " at the speed you ride it would not make any difference " is not the response I am seeking.

If the tread pattern looks symetrical, I've never felt a difference having them on backwards. There's supposed to be something in the carcass construction of some tyres, but I've never felt/seen it.
I can feel the better braking edge, though...

I think there might be some sort of legislation in Europe about marking the correct direction of rotation, even though some tyres are not directional...
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

I know that tubeless trials radial tyres are marked as being directional but everyone including me turn them to get the fresh edge, can't tell any difference in how they react unless the tyre has gone flat
Tread pattern would likely be the deciding factor in whether you can run it either way around
