Cutoff Disc's
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:08:26 am »
Like a lot of you blokes I use a heap of the thin cut off disc's on my grinders and buying the cheap Chinese shit is a waste of money and time and good brand like  Flexavit can become expensive.  A while back I went halves with a mate and purchased 50 Makita brand disc's off ebay for about $50 and they were ok at around $1 each.  This time we took the risk on an unknown brand.

( RTM ) 125mm 5" CUTTING DISC WHEEL ANGLE GRINDER CUT OFF METAL STEEL STAINLESS x100

They turned up and I tried them out on Friday.  Cut through a 40mm bar then measured the disc it had only worn .2 of a mm which to me makes it as good a quality as the Flexavit.   The difference is they only cost me $53.95 for a 100 of them with free delivery, that's around $0.54 each instead of $2.30 to $2.70 each for Flexavit, depending on where you buy them.  I won't make my final decision on them until I have used them a few more times and on different materials but at the moment they look to be the goods.

More offerings from PRC.

Bunnings clear old brands when they stitch up a deal with a new supplier.

When they changed to Makita discs they dropped these, I rolled the dice and bought the lot, 50+, $1 each.

I've been hanging off  9"A/G's for over 30 years and these are the best hard wearing slitting/discs I have ever used, hands down.

They leave flexavit for dead.

For "Stainless", is always a reasonable bet.

My words exactly. I had one let go just recently and it nearly creamed my little Jack Russell, not to mention putting a gouge in my nice Cheney tank. It was a $2 shop cheapy...my bad, back to Flexovit unless Zane's uncovered a new source of quality discs.

A while ago I stupidly bought a cheap wire wheel for on the angle grinder.
The vibration when I turned it on should have been enough of a warning, but I pressed on regardless. It came apart shortly after grabbing the frame, jumping out of my grip and into my chest.
Lucky my shirt was strong enough to grab it and stall the grinder.  ::)
But I saved a couple of dollars!!!  ::)

A little bit of bark off and another good reminder of how much crap is being sold out there these days.  :-\

I like  it when the wires randomly fly out and leave you looking like a porcupine.

was a program on here not long ago [A&E or rescue helicopter program] where a poor guy had 'just that', either a big cut off wheel or an angle grinder wheel came to bits & went into his head, maybe eye but now think somewhere by his ear. He did survive but hell it wasn't good to see [when your having your evening meal!!]. Bought a cheapy chinese cut off wheel a few years back when i had to rebuild our rusty old general use trailer. Used all the heavy pipe from around the old cow shed & the machine is still going [$60 by memory]--BUT, the original wheel started flying to bits from the first cut, so bought a good disc. Surprised the unit itself is still going but not used much nowdays.

My next door neighbour was laying under his car cutting the exhaust pipe off with a 9 inch angle grinder so he could replace the muffler.  The disc jammed and pulled the grinder from his hands, the trigger was locked on and when it dislodged it hit the ground and flew at him and he had to keep fending it off until he gained control  again.  When he got home from the hospital he came in for a beer, his hands looked like he had been hand feeding tiger sharks.

Will never buy a 9 inch grinder or let any of my blokes use one. In these days of work over I can't believe they are sold still. Eventually a licence wil be required for them and chainsaws.

The thin 5 inch blades are the best thing ever and I will be checking out ebay me thinks.
Bultaco Metralla, Matador MK 5, Montadero mk2, El Bandido model 18,plus lots of bits and two Honda XR's 250,350.

Don't ever consider cheap in price / quality disks for a Stihl 14 or 16 inch petrol demolition saw! Ever!  >:(
Matter of fact do not attempt without proper instruction from an experienced operator to use one. These stupid building renovation shows letting amateurs loose with them.... Kickback ,fire , dust, sharps, disk collapse..... >:(

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

That is an example of why lock triggers are now banned in industry. At a shut down on treasure island, a locked on 9 incher got away in an enclosed vessel and decimated the operator.  and I mean decimated.

There is a REAL problem now with such weapons, these days anyone in the uneducated public can afford the full range them.
Ask any triage nurse how regular grinder injuries are.

I was partnered to a beautiful triage nurse with big tits for seven years.
  other injuries she said that were more common than you would think are;
-eyes hanging out of their sockets because of a slipped "occa strap"
-bad toe injuries from lawn mowers(I guess, inappropriate foot ware)

When i was at Superior Pak there was a toolbox meeting called to tell us 9 inch angle grinders are banned, too many accidents within the Transpacifc Industries group(6000) employees Australia wide,we used them all the time but you really had to be on the ball(no daydreaming ;))

cheers Dale.
