17.12.1932 - 25.08.2013 † BILL NILSSON HAS DIED.

The legend and two times World Champion Motocross, the Swede Bill Nilsson has died on Sunday 25.08.2013 at the age of 80 years. In 1954 Nilsson was selected the first time for the Swedish Team during the Motocross des Nations in Norg, the Netherlands. Nilsson was the individual winner and became second with the Swedish Team behind England, but before Belgium. At that moment Nilsson was known in the International Motocross World for ever.
In 1955 he started together with his friend Sten Lundin an International Motocross career and they both travelled a lot through Europe. In 1957 Nilsson was the first ever World Champion Motocross in the 500cc class. He became for the second time World Champion in 1960.

This is a very hard moment for the family and all the Classic Motocross fans.

Rest in peace, Bill.
— with Jeff Nilsson and Kristina Schaad-Nilsson.

Always sad to hear of a legend passing.  I remember Jeff Smith telling stories about what an intense competitor Billl Nilsson was at an AHRMA dinner years ago.  Godspeed!

Just reading through Husqvarna Success and Bills first bike he built was a 1957 AJS 350 which he rode in the 500 World Championship. The frame being his own design and the next year 1958 the Monark emblem Crescent was created. Many stories left behind for us to enjoy in pre65  8)
RIP Legend

One of the true greats of the sport. He was not only one of the best riders of his era, he was also an amazing engineer that built some of the trickest bikes of the period. Thanks for your contribution to our lives Bill.

Yep, same here. He would dismiss the anguished protests of his victims by explaining curtly, "Ve no playing pink-ponk !"
