Is there an easy way to load photos on here now? Similar sites allow you to load up threw the site

The problem with allowing images to be uploaded is that it takes up a lot of space. Images can be loaded over on the ning site and it is currently running up around 10-15 Gb of space used up for images. Depending on hosting packages, that can add to cost. Plus it also loads up the server when you have too many image calls to the local file directory.

I have been considering opening up the possibility as my current hosting package does have several Gb of available storage, the downside would be once we use that up in a year or two I'd need to buy more space. That could of course be negotiated, but I'd be looking for donations to cover that when the time came.

Just on the matter of these websites, it seems the Ning people are changing the way their sites work and I have to figure out what that means and what the impact will be on the sites currently hosted there, which are:

ozvmx
oz dirt track
Victorian Classic MX
Brisbane MCC

I'll have to get on to VCM and BMCC soon and let them know because I think the changeover is at the end of this year or early next year.

Graeme - could you also put a time limit on photos - such that after 12 months maybe old photos are deleted or archived?

Yes, I can run a process that deletes all images over 12 months old, so that is possibly an option.

Having the photos hosted on Flicker or Photobucket like we do now is the go in my opinion. Come on its not that hard  ::) ::)

If you can't be bothered doing that (or learning how) then having directly attached photos blown away after 6 or 12 months is an option. But then you may as well blow the whole thread away if you start deleting the photos in my view. Once useful information on photos gets culled then the value of the thread is destroyed anyway.

I guess some pics could be deleted after 12 or 6 months but sometimes I discover a story (via Google) that was from 4 or 5 years ago, then the pics would be gone  :-(  It actually saddens me when forum'ers remove them from their photobucket album.

A lot of photos, mine included disappeared from the forum when photo hosting site Village Photos went belly up. I lost a treasure chest of archival photos but I'm starting again with Photobucket.
I agree, those who find posting photos too difficult couldn't have tried very hard. I'm a total techno philistine and I can do it. using the simple Photobucket format.
