Clymer manual says 606cc or 150mm from top with forks compressed & no springs for the 490j, for 490k numbers are 578cc & 170mm

No matter the bike always go with the oil from the top method. (IMO) Personally I would start with 130mm no matter the bike and go from there. Go with the 600ml to start with then use the top down method. Get yourself a couple of big syringes from the chemist, attach a tube with some sort of slip ring to set the depth from the top. Then suck out or add in 10 mm, or even 5mm, at a time till happy. NO AIR & make sure you blead the air regularily. Ring me if you want a better explaination. Perko 0427334186

If you have a long enough hose you can just use a peg to set your depth.  Tight Arse Racing Team Engineering living up to our motto .. far from ideal  ;D
