1984 Honda CR250

So, I've replaced ignition coil, checked Stator & pulse which appear to be within range, anything else I should check, or is it looking like the CDI ?

CDI seems to be the obvious point of focus...

Although "appears to be within range" raises some alarm bells. It's sometimes easy to convince yourself that something is 'close enough' when it really isn't...

Sorry Nath, was within range with my budget multimeter.

If its just a resistance check, then touch the probes together and see what reading you get. Subtract that reading from what you measure across the stator.
One of my cheapy multimeters reads 3.5 ohms when you do this - can make a big difference!

But yeah, sounding more and more like the CDI box.

I've got a CDI box here that you can have for $2k - comes with a free bike too... :D

Yeah did check resistance first across probes, which surprisingly was 0. Thanks for the offer of the CDI, ha ha. I think I have found a place in the states that does CDI's, called RegulatorRectifier.com, seems they make after market replacements quoting me US$180 + $38 postage.

There were some positive customer reveiws on their website (don't suppose they'd put up non complimentary reveiws).

Anyone shed any light good or bad on RegulatorReceitfier.com

Been through all that recently, checked everything. The stator read good with a multi meter but turned out to be the problem. I may have a stator & CDI hidden away somewhere.

Several times we've had stators that were within spec with an ohms meter but they turned out to be faulty. Rewound the stator and problem fixed.

OK, so when it's within spec is it just a matter of replacing parts until you get spark ?

Erm why not try this since the stator is dynamic device connect the multi across the stator while turning the flywheel over with a drill up to 2000rpm(ground out the plug ALWAYS) ? Should see 110V AC or so across the stator and 0-5v on the trigger. If you get 110v going to the CDI and 0v on the trigger the CDI has to be at fault, as that has to supply voltage or receive a square wave signal from the stator to tell the SCR to dump the voltage to the coil.

Hey Lozza, thanks for that info, can I do that with a digital multimeter or do I need an analogue to see the fluctuation ?
