Hi Guys,
I've ridden these things and they are great, are they easy to get parts for and worth a resto?

I think they can be very tempramental popeye....very finincky and I would say expensive to build a good one.....if you get one, don't ever park next to me in the pits cause I wont be pushing it. ;D....having said that, they are a cool bike.....I reckon you'd be better of with a late 80's one....a lot more development and a way better bike.

You have to get the valve clearance perfect and do it often

Mine isn't hard to start. Once I worked out that the kick starter ratio is low and you have to take it a fair way past TDC, it seems to fire up easy enough.
Do you own one Popeye? Go for it. Awesome bike. First true lightweight racing 4-stroke.

Have a chat to Shawn Allison,and Grant Mcllian,they both race them,and know all the ins and outs.

Just what we need another slow 4 stroke rider wobbling around the track ::) ;D

Jump on to Café Husky website, they have all the poop on the 510's. I reckon they are one of the icons of the century. ol mate bought one of the first plastic tank 84's brand new and once we figured how to start it, it was a stunning weapon. it was a revelation c/w the xr's and tt's at the time. the sound of those twin pipes is awesome.

No I don't own one but I no where one is, it needs a complete resto, I've ridden both Shawns and Grants and there unreal I really like the way they go and handle, yeah Graham the ride on you bike the other day got me thinking mmmmm that was bloody fun, are they easy enough to get parts for?

I'm no Husky expert, I only own the one. My understanding is that the whole bike bar the crankcases, cylinder, head and engine internals are the same as other Huskys. Even clutch and gearbox are the same. Parts are easy to get, except for the 4 stroke specific bits. These aren't unobtainable but generally very expensive.
I agree with what you say about the performance. I had a 450 Husaberg and I don't think it has anymore power.

Popeye if the top end is good such as head and valves the rest wont cost much to fix. Once they are set up they start easily and just need the oil changed after every race meeting or at least every 2. I will have mine at Nudgee on the weekend but im just racing in the 4 strokes due to bringing 4 bikes.
It would be great if you got one because thats 4 x 510's in 1 club, probably the most in Australia. Is it a TE,TX or TC.

Would be four in one club, pretty rare I would think as I've never seen another one out side our club, I'm not sure TE TC TX how do you tell the difference??
What would be a fair price for a incomplete rebuilder?

Ol mate in france (on the café website) put up a link to a sale for 8K euro the other day for an immaculate one.

A basket case would be 1 - 2  k I would guess

TE and TX/C were same as the 2ies. tc 4 speed, 13 inches travel, te was 6 sp with spaced 10" travel and lighting coil. TX was 6 sp TC (Something like that).

im not sure if the engines were different in cam specs etc, I don't  think they were.

Huskyparts.com may have listings for bits and pieces for the engines, they pretty much have everything else for husky.

Andy at HVA has the rest....

Check out the left kickers / vintage restoration section on Café Husky, there has been a few detailed 510 rebuilds
