H6 and VB 250 case bolts (M7) and O-Rings
« on: July 09, 2013, 06:50:33 am »
Hi all
I'm re-building both my 360 H6 and VB250 bottom ends. I need to confirm the right sizes of M7 case bolts on each. The parts lists are a bit vague and both motors had been apart before, so I'm double checking.

This is what I reckon on the H6:
1 off x 75 long
1 off x 85 long
6 off x 90 long (one of these next to the gearbox filler maybe should be 100 long?)
1 off x 110 long
1 off x 140 long
1 off x 145 long

Haven't done the VB yet but I reckon it could be similar.

Does anyone know the correct lengths?

Finally, what size are the little seal o-rings under the bolt heads?

Thanks in advance
David

The VB250 book shows
2 x 85
1 x 100
1 x 110
1 x 145
1 x 145
1 x 75
4 x 90

I am sure Jared can confirm but I understand that the part numbers tell you the diameter & length as the first two digits after the dot indicate diameter and the last three digits are the length
0090-07090 = 7mm x 90mm
0090-07110 = 7mm x 110mm

The VB250/360, H6/7 360, H7 250, VE 250/414, VF250/414, VG250/414 should all be the same as they all use the same crank cases with very slight machining alterations. Again Jared could confirm.

There are a couple of the bolts that must be the correct length or they foul an outer case or rotating components while others can be slightly longer and it does not matter. The 7mm spring washers are difficult as I have not found a convenient replacement short of ordering a large quantity. Some 1/4'' ones do fit but are tight which risks damaging the thread.

As far as the 'o' rings go just go to a bearing shop and ask them to supply them at a few cents each, I think 1/4" fit perfectly.

Thanks

Is the order of assembly: Near side - Bolt, O-ring under head. Far side - spring washer, nut? Are there any flat washers?

There was a mixture on both engines.

The parts book shows the location of the washers (yes there are flat washers), 'o' rings, bolt direction, spring washers and finally nuts. If you look closely at the cases you can see that the bolt holes have a radius to accept the 'o' rings.
