RT1MX on on eBay.
« on: May 21, 2013, 10:37:08 am »
The same bloke that's selling the banana framed Jawa (above) is also selling this sweet RT1-MX. People wonder why, when I've got Maicos, Ducati and other exotica I am so absorbed in these early Yamahas just have to look at this beautiful bike. I started racing for real on a 1970 yellow stripe RT1-MX absolutely identical to this and even though it was a less than successful race bike, the model found a niche in my psyche that still exists there today. To me today it's all about the engine, probably one of the strongest and most underrated open class motor ever. It's hard to deny those looks though.

Here a very cool vintage motocross ride. Not a stripped down Enduro, a real RT-1 MX (frame & engine number match, RT1-51758) has been in a private collection for decades.  It's a very low use bike that is extremely original. The steel rims/spokes are in amazing condition with no rust!  Tires are decent and possibly original to the bike. Original seat cover with no rips and very pliable.  The tank is in great shape although showing some signs of its 43 yrs.  Original and very rare steel fenders still have factory paint although showing patina.  These old 360 MX's are scarce and one in this shape is almost impossible to find.  Please feel free to ask questions.  I'll be glad to assist with shipping for cost of travel.  Thanks for looking!

The alloy front mudguard is worth $500 alone believe it or not. I get the warm and fuzzy's thinking about the fun I had finding my dirt bike legs on my RT1 (conveniently forgetting what a pig it was to start, how many flywheel woodruff keys I went through and how heavy it was when I was laying under it after yet another high side). But that motor, that wonderful motor made up for most of the RT1's foibles.

Ironically Freaky I've just come in from the shed where I was swapping the PVL back onto the RT1 motor in my Cycle Factory short tracker. I've been running a Rex Gaunt black box on a DT400 CDI but want to try the bike with the PVL at Nepean on Saturday. I have a little feeling the PVL will work better on Dirt Track and the Rex's Speed Shop heavy flywheel CDI better for MX. With my chronically dicky knees, starting is a key element in the decision on what ignition I use.

I removed the kick starter from my RT1 before it did me a serious mischief.  I get a push start in the pits and if it stops during a race ( usually while I'm trying to get it off me) I just push it back to the pits. stuff it!
cheers
dont follow me i'm probably off line!
