Throttles
« on: May 14, 2013, 09:25:47 pm »
What does everyone recomend for a replacement throttle kit for my 81 YZ250? All 3 of the bikes I picked up have some sort of aftermaket throttle with them but are all in a bad state. Any input would be appreciated

Cheers, Chris

Original Gunnar Gasser from John Tittman in Brisbane. Don't what ever you do buy a Chinese replica! Just ask Firko who no doubt will tell you about his experience. J

I use a late model YZ125 throttle assembly on my 250 G and other bikes, fairly cheap and easily replaced.  Peter.

Why work so hard turning a throttle. I have enough trouble hanging on as you know.  :)

I believe all the throttle housings have stayed the same from the 1990 models thru to current, the alloy housing directs the cable to the left which places the cable in behind the front number plate. Hope this helps.   Peter.

Gents

I go with the first post. The Gunnar Gassar type throttle (whirlpool) is the way to go. If only the fact that every second bloke at a  VMX race will have one on their bike too. Linked to a Mikuni Carb via a Standard Husky throttle cable (not expensive either)

Rummaged through my spares and found a throttle from what I believe to be from an 84 YZ125, throttle tube is broke and the cap missing but I have the housing and after going through the cables at the local shop I deal at, found an 84 YZ125 cable from motion pro that fits perfect! On the bike now and all works. I will order a new tube and cover and will be good to go!

Cheers

Thread resurrection!

I run 84+ Kawasaki throttles & cables most of the time. They work well, must be durable ('cause I've ended up with so many good ones), and never seem to be a drama adapting them to whatever carb.

The original 1970s/early 80s Yamaha throttles, all shit me to tears.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
