Roger,
Generally that would be true. I believe that 76 GS models probably landed in Oz late 76 when Floody started importing. All I can say is I bought my MC5 in Jan 77 from Floods. The 400 MC5 was white and I have a 76 400 GS with a white tank that has a later frame number tan my MC5. I think Den would say the same. The usual proviso is KTM did not necessarily keep to the norm. White is safe I guess

Agree with Billy, as far as the US is concerned there were West Coast and East Coast bikes, from what stories you get on the penton forum. West coast coming in as KTM's not Penton. So the west coast ones were using the European colours, which meant for example - Red KTM MC5 250's compared to the Orange Penton 250's.
Then here, 77 MC5's that Brad Lewis has are Blue! I do believe the 76 MC5 400 he has is white and must be one of the early ones.

I am rebuilding mine to white.

The Blue tanks Ive seen are slightly larger than the white tanks, The there is the big blue enduro tanks as well. The blue tanks do fit the high breather frame thou where the white tanks only fit MC frames.
