You would be better off with a new filter and they are available from Uni Filter Aust. (about $70 IIRC).

I can't help you the rest but I would suggest EvilPay or maybe fabricate your own (hey, they're outa sight). I could lend you the parts to duplicate if it helps.

still a listed part.  leak like shit though and suck in lotsa dirt.  also the pop rivett have a habit of coming out and getting sucked in the motor.

Unless its a resto put a new metal pipe off the carby rubber going up into the box then stick a universal pod on it in there - bullet proof and a shit load less head aches and safer.

Not for resto, just wanted the quickest, simplest, fastest method to provide effective filtering and figured standard set up would be best. Have other bikes to race/ride so the poor old mx just sits there waiting fo my TLC. Have run  a pod straight off the back of the carb for many years but have had problems especially in wet or muddy conditions. I have a new piston ready to go into a rebored barrel, and dont want to risk poor filtering again. Now the dilema, should i stick to standard (with some new rivets) if i can track one down, or make one with MX250's offer of assistance or adapt a pod as freaky suggests. ??? ??? ??? ???

Despite Freaky's comments and misgivings I run the standard set up for years, MX, Dirt Track, a season of Enduro and Willoughby Club road racing (Amaroo). Minimum  fiddling and no probs - and it proformed (I won't bore you).

The standard set up is good especially for water/mud proofing. While pods and Freakys method is direct I have my reservations when it comes to performance. Sometime ago I 'discovered' the benefit of a 'still air' box for the carby mouth to draw on immediately (you'll notice all of tyhe high performance road bikes have this feature and over the years it has grown). If I was to build an improved air box I would try to build in this feature.

My choice would be 1/ standard air box, 2/ improved 'still air' air box (only because of the 'hassel') 3/ the pod method.

POD method cheap , easy works.  standard costly, needs better sealing at base, new cage (in this case) , new filter.  still only average.

GEt pipe, stick in pipe up and into box seal old hole off around tube for "Still air effect" fit pod inside original box onto tube that comes through hole in box, clean filter at will by lifting off POD, rather than pissing about with wing nut that has mind of own, base that never seems to fit filter in right, and worse still gaps and H/F from stupid shrinking rubber hose to carby falling off all the time cause its old and shrunk.   Original is nice, .............pause ....but simple and working is i think easier long term.  :O)

Thanks for the pros and cons. Has got me thinking now. As i have a new carby to airbox boot, and if an original cage doesn't surface soon the best solution maybe to remove the original triangular filter seat and rivet in place a simple sheetmetal flange with a spigot to take a pod filter with a wide (2.5" or more) opening.

dont fuc a perfectly good airbox.  make sure it can be reveresed if needed.  but i think your on the right track, remind me and ill take a foto of both, i got mx 360 with one of each on them, might help you can decide.

Although i must say i just refitted a normal filter and it was a piece of piss.   but the pod one is peeling ( see other thread) but i can have a clean one spare with me if its dusty wareas the proper one i dont.

By Cage Retainer Plate,  what do you mean,  what part #?  Is it the cap for the filter 363-14412-00-00 or the bottom slot 363-21256-00-00??
