38mm yam fork dis assembly

G'day gents, what size nut is needed on the end of a bar to slide down 38mm yam forks for dis assembly??

On the yz 250 , 400 1977 and some other yamaha models
they have an external piece on top of the damp rod, not the internal sort.(where you can weld a large nut to a square rod )
I made a rod end I think it was 10mm by 15mm but will have to check in the shed for spot on measure
Its a small end on the damp rod so you have to get it spot on so it wont spin.
or try a rattle gun , but some times they dont work aswell.

Rattle gun + round end of broom handle usually works

Cut the end off a 10mm allen key so as to fit into a 10mm socket & put them on a rattle gun. Leave the fork assembled, turn upside down & press down hard. Something through the axle hole works well as does a mate who can do the pressing. Put the rattle gun on the 10mm allen bolt & give it to it.

I have two 175Gs, one of them needed a 19mm head, the other a 22. Go figure they are 3 months apart in build dates. My 79 400 is a 24mm head. I made up long rods to suit all of them with bolts welded in one end of tube and a 1/2 in drive in the other. All are 38mm fork. However still use a rattle gun on the Allen key it is much easier
