JBR500/XR500
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:57:53 pm »
Hi

I'm restoring a JBR 500 and need to obtain a main shaft bearing which has now been discontinued by Honda . The standard bearing ( 63/22N  NACHI) has a 2 mm grove machined into it so the set ring fits and locates in the crank case . The off the shelf bearing has a 1.6 mm machine grooved thus a bit on the sloppy side with set ring supplied  . I cant be the only one with this issue over the years . Can any one give some advice on this drama , its the only thing stopping finishing the engine rebuild . Ive tried Dave Silvers & Honda .

 Part Number : 91007-393-003

Cheers Mudnut

Rod Spry in the UK is rebuilding these engines all day long for the new JBRs he builds and various other race bikes.  I am sure he'll have one or can point you in the right direction.

I had the same problem with a bearing in one of my XS650 motors. If you have access to a macnine shop, you can turn the groove in the bearing outer race. I saved almost $100 on one bearing by doing this. It's amazing what you can machine with modern carbide tooling!!
