Pre 85 can you ride a eVo in that that class
« on: March 30, 2013, 09:28:59 pm »
Sorry for this question I am sure it has been asked 1 million times
But can you ride a eVo bike in pre 85

Meaning I am looking into a 81 KTM (twin shock air cooled drum brakes) so this is a eVo bike right.

Can it be raced in pre 85? Or should it be raced in pre 85?

Or is this bike limited to eVo class?????

Thanks for all opinions!
Thanks Paul

I'm hoping to run my '79 KX250 in Evo & Pre 85 this year.

I think this has been discussed a few times before and although I don't have a problem with it, especially if the later era classes are down on numbers, it could lead to a problem if too many people from earlier classes want to ride up a class.

Also, where do you draw the line?  Can pre75 ride in pre78? Pre78 ride in evo? Pre65 ride in pre90 etc.

Like I said I don't have a problem if the race is down on numbers, maybe in that scenario a few bikes/riders could be invited to 'ride up' a class just to get a few more bikes out there and make it more interesting.

I am sorry I think I actually asked the same question previously also - but doesn't this constitue riding up a class and therefore not OK?

No problem in Viper John. We don't expect people to drag along a bike for every class they want to ride.... ::)

Evo is not an era. It does not have a cut-off date. So a pre-85 bike can also be Evo if it conforms to the Evo rules.

Hi Paul
Why do you want to ride against disc braked, water cooled, single shocked bikes anyway? Especially when you don't have to.

Cheers

I would think that was obvious. So he doesn't have to buy, wash, repair, prep a second bike. Is Viper leaning toward one all in race that lasts all day?

Yeah. We find most people don't need to spend their whole existence living, breathing and spending $$$$ in a sport that for all intents and purposes is supposed to be about fun with very little return dollar wise even if you are the champ or champete. So to us mere mortals, It's kinda nice to have a cheap, fun day on the one steed.

Keeps the wife happy as well.  ;)

Not really sure if I would do that

Ted I think you are right !

I think I will buy the bike anyway and just start with the pre 78 on the 125 and if I can stay on the bike maybe take on the eVo as well if I handle the pre 78 ok

We have plenty of practice ( not racing, just riding ) at Heaven where you can ride the KTM to start with anyway. There is an enduro later in the year at Buladelah where the KTM would be brilliant to ride. See ya next week
