YZ 360-A in Swapmeet.
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:03:33 am »
Here's one of those elusive holy grail bikes. It's great that it's in fairly unrestored condition but for 15k I'd want that OW13 top end as well as the original.

1974 YZ360 matching #s 432-000XXX It is a preservation not a restoration I have touched it up only and left it as original as possible including but not limited to fenders, tank, seat, cables , grips and so on. Front tire is original ,rear is a period correct metzeler , forks are very clean no rust The only non 360 parts are a 250A carb (same carb just marked 431 not 432 ). Currently it has a OW13 top end but that will be changed with a original 74 cylinder and head (new sleeve and piston). $15,000 OBO Call me if you would like to discuss further 1 of 530 built

Bought my 250A off Tom, we got there in the end but took a bit to ship it

Like he says bike is preservation, where else will you find one with no hours on it. 15K doesn't buy you much of an RH250 so I don't think it is crazy money.

Yeah Tom's a bit of a YZ-A specialist. I bought my YZ-B clutch cover off him yonks ago. I think 15k is fair money considering the small number produced and the cult following they have. The sad side is that we don't see too many of them racing any more (if ever) as they've become too valuable to ding up. Back in the first wave of VMX from '88-99 there were two or three 360's racing in Sydney and at least one in Queensland. One of the Sydney bikes was Col Brightwells 360B motor fitted to a YZ250-A roller (these were the days when the B wasn't yet legal for pre 75) and the other two were the real deal owned by brothers from new.....both were eventually sold to the USA I was told. Another racer built up a pretty decent YZ360-A tribute bike using a YZ-A 250 roller that'd been to hell and back with a horrible stick welded angle iron lay down shock conversion*, fitted with an RT2MX motor. That bike still exists, gathering dust under a tarp in country NSW but the owner won't sell it because he "is thinking of doing some dirt track on her" ::).

*I got the gig of bringing it back to original and recall shuddering that somebody could do such a shit job of butchering such a rare bike. I also modified the RT2MX pipe so it'd fit the YZ frame.

Yeah I vaguely remember Barry Senn's bike selling for a hell of a lot less than that on Trademe and going off to the USA.

The Clarks had one in Vic.
Of the three 250's that I sold one went to the central coast of NSW and I have never seen it since. I sold a rolling chassis to a guy at Pitmans yamaha in SA who told me he had a NOS 360 engine never to be seen again. The engine and complete bike fitted with cerani' forks I sold to some guy in SA also and I think he still races.
