Ballarat Swap meet (Barn) Find
« on: March 10, 2013, 04:02:32 pm »
A mate of mine, not really into the VMX scene, was walking around the swap meet, not looking for anything in particular, just having a gander. Comes across a near complete (Needed a throttle, plug cap & clutch lever) CR250 1978 model & asked how much. The guy explaned it was last running about 12 years ago & the bottom end was noisey so he put it in the shed & that's where it sat till he brought it to the swap meet. Again my mate asked how much? $750 was the reply. He didn't even haggle, paid the money & took it home.

Not sure what he was going to do with it he decided to see if it would run. Put a cap on it, drained the tank & did a flush through the carby. Kicked in the guts & away it went. No noisey bottom end either. So he got a new throttle & clutch lever. Kicked her again & again she fired, pulled the clutch in then with trepidation went for a gear. With a nice click, as apposed to clunk, it selected 1st gear & away he went.

I'm not a CR expert but that's got to be the bargain of the meet?

I can vouch for that bargain Viper666, I had a ride on it on Friday night. Apart from the clutch slipping a bit it goes well and could just do with a small tidy up to be a brilliant racer. Amazing what is still sitting around that the owners don't know their value.

Stan.
