How many is enough?
« on: February 15, 2013, 06:47:47 pm »
What it really starting to erk me here is when a new person joins up (could have been a lurker for god knows how long) and advertises a bike for sale and is then jumped on by people who feel they need to ride the person down by saying "Nice first post  ::)". When it's a SPAM post, I understand the negativity but when it's a personal seller......So, my question is, how many posts would appease these self appointed Policeman of the forum?

advertises a bike for sale

It was great that he offered it up on the forum here first.
No ones keen on giving extra coin to those other seller fee websites elsewhere.
Best is in the West !!

I would assume at least 411

Self appointed policeman are not a worry it is the Price Nazi's that you have to worry about. Their greatest comment is " saw a better one than that just last week for half the price " or " they were a shit model when they were new "

Mr TeeBone if you're not gonna be brave enough to name names when you have your swipe then next time dont bother! Firstly we'll agree to recognise that you're referring to me despite you not saying so, and we'll also safely assume that the other person you're referring here is a friend or acquaintance of yours which would be why you've taken exception to my remark.

So, my question is, how many posts would appease these self appointed Policeman of the forum?

Now you suggest that this person may have been "lurking" for a long time and that's great, so if he has been or might of been lurking for a long time that means he would of seen lots of each of our comments, read heaps of the fantastic and useful information here, viewed thousands of photos, kept up to date with all the events happening and possibly even picked up a bargain via the "for sale" board!!! So bearing all this in mind would't you think it's common courtesy to introduce yourself?? Tell all the people you may have been benefiting from for months or possibly years who you are?? And if you think that person has been lurking for a while don't you think it's pretty poor form that the only time that person made the decision to contribute something was only when they stood to benefit financially from it???

If you really want me to quantify for you exactly how many posts should be made before one chooses to sell something on the forum THE ANSWER IS 1!!!! Just 1 polite g'day to tell the people who you are, maybe explain a little of what you've done if you wish and possibly - just possibly say THANKS for all you've gained from others with a willingness to share their wealth of knowledge so far.

So there, you asked the question, you now have your answer.

Cheers, Brendan  ;)

You're not the only one, Brendan - but the most consistent!

To "safely assume" is doing you no service as the postee in question I wouldn't know from a bar of soap, much like yourself.

With regard to your reply, why not welcome that person into the fold with YOUR reply to them, rather than belittle the person? It would sure as hell make that person feel more welcome, rather than holding some sort of "higher authority" over them and who knows, that person COULD be a veritable treasure trove of information but may not be all that forum savvy. You'll catch more bees with honey than vinegar! ;)

i'll take you at your word that you dont know the person who made the initial post which triggered this thread, I think we have both made some valid points. I hope you agree.

Cheers, Brendan

LISTING                                INTERPRETATION

Mate needs cash.               Maybe not desperate but probably open to offers.
Has 83  84 Maico.              Make and model
About 3K in receipts.          Has proof of spendings
Offers over  $4500.            Asking price
Johnny. 0429727137.         Contact number
Photos when I get them.     Being first post maybe not able to post photos
Thanks Pat.                        Looks like a thank you and an introduction to me

What the fork are you on about rookie 1. What else do you want from an advertisement?

Why the fork would Pat put out his life story on this forum when all he is trying to do is move a bike on for a mate.

How the fork would you know if he is benefitting from selling a bike. For all you know he could be doing his arse big time. I view it as he is putting another bike out there for someone else to enjoy.

It is clowns like you that turn people away from posting, just as teebone has alluded to.

Don't bother typing shit on here to respond to this , be brave enough ( your words ) to call me on 0407004473 if you wanna say something

Clearly my point has been missed, Ted if i wanted your phone number i would be "brave" enough to ask for it. The online forum is exactly that, a place where you can air you thoughts, opinions and feelings on subjects offered that you wish to or offer up subjects of your own you wish to put up for discussion/debate.

I have as eloquently as i can offered my opinion on the issue brought up by the Mr.TeeBone, and in the same way he has offered his. You can all get on here and keyboard bash me as much as you like, i will continue to offer my rebuttals here and not attempt to wrangle my way into your everyday life and ear bash anyone with my opinion when that would be out of line. Please note my restraint to offer any name calling back your way, again that's something pretty out of line that i would also opt against, Each to their own

Cheers, Brendan

If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.
