19 inch dirt track front tyre choice.

Because my flat tracker has a brakeless spool front hub which I believe is illegal according to MoMs, I find that I now have to lace up a braked 19" front wheel. Now my dilemna.....

I've got 2 19'' Carlilse and one Pirelli MT53 flat track tyres but they're a bit old and as hard as a teak coffee table. I have access to a new 350-19 Mitas speedway tyre and was wondering how they work mounted on the front? I looked at buying a new Maxxis S pattern DTR-1 tyre but even the narrowest 19 incher is too wide to fit between my fork legs. The 375-19 SW-07 Mitas fits nicely but my mate Jonesy reckons they might be a bit iffy on the front. Another option I found while googling is the Chen Sing T180f 350-19 which has an almost identical tread pattern to the Dunlop K70, Pirelli and Carlilse. Anyone got any ideas?

The Dunlop K180 is not a bad choice, I used them for a while.

Does anybody handle the Dunlop K180 here? I was told that they've been discontinued. I've used them myself John and agree that they're not too bad.
Has anyone ever used that stuff the go cart and motard blokes use to soften the tyres?

I have just walked into Team Moto store at Maroochydore and ordered K180's over the counter.

Or get some wider clamps and go the maxxis

there are 2 mitas speedway tyres.  can never remeber but one of them the Sw05 or the SW07 has more or less slits in it and a multi direcetion flat wall, the other has the tread going over onto the side wall, that one which ever it is i have on a spooler front and its been fine.    the flat sided one i would use.

Last time i looked the moms only said one working brake, under the classic longtrack i think.

I have a few, I also have 300x21. One is on its way to you FOC for services to VMX.
If you are going to race the bike at Nepean or Barleigh Ranch the IRC 300x19 Farm Knobbly is a far better choice. Distributed by Ficeda, Yamahas Accessory Division, IRC should be available at any Yamaha shop,

Don't run the Midas Speedway on the front they walk too far off line,

Shit..I totally missed this last post so you can imagine my surprise when a 19" K180 Dunlop turns up unannounced at Casa del Firko this arvo? It had me buggered as to where it had come from so here I am back tracking on my posts and lo and behold I found SON's above post. I was in Goulburn at the Blues Festival when the post went up so I missed it..........Thanks so much Graeme, it's just what I want need for the current flat track build....a big improvement on the old Pirelli MT53 that currently lives on the rim. If there's anything I can do......you know the drill .

Try soaking the old tyres in either brake fluid or a trans seal reviver. It's both designed to bring rubber back to life--soften and revitalise.
Spray some on when the ''blue groove'' is down late in the day.

I hear what you're saying EML but what would stop me from having a go at something like that, is if you got the proceedure wrong and the tyre delaminated or fell apart at speed.

Firkos tyre is New, it doesn't need softening, for our tracks they need cutting or grooving.
