Wheel identity, Help needed.

 Can any of you Anoraks identify this hub? I suspect it could be from a Montesa but because it didn't come with a backing plate I need to know the exact model so I can source one from somewhere. At some stage it's been laced with a 19" rim and fitted with a speedway Barum. That looks like the early 40 hole 6inch pommy wheel if its a 17mm axle maybe Rickman /reh

We compared it to Rickman, REH, British Hub and Sprite hubs on Sunday but it's different to all of them. One of the blokes who dropped in swore it was from a Montesa but after googling this morning I don't think it is. It certainly looks British.

Close but no cigar mate.....If you look closely at my hub you'll notice a 25mm parallel ridge between the spoke flange and the taper (easily seen in the top photo). That ridge is less than half the size on the Rickman hub. Ditto REH. I got a PM from a bloke who suggested it might be from an AJS Stormer but after checking it looks really close except the AJS has fins on the brake surface area. Otherwise it's pretty close. As I said, we compared it to a number of different hubs at Jonesy's on Sunday and the usual suspects weren't even close.

It's a Montesa hub, around 73-75ish, fitted to VR250, enduro, various models - can even be used up to VA.

That's what we thought too Mike but when you compare the VR hub in this photo with my hub you'll find many differences.

 I have never seen a 40 spoke rim and hub on an original Montesa, unless its older than anything I've ever seen. I reckon it's a pommy especially
with the 19" rim. Do you think they have always been together or has it been relaced at some time?

Disclaimer: I don't have a clue about this stuff! 

But I was reading a test of the '72 Rickman Montesa 250 the other day and the front wheel looks a lot like this one.

are you sure its a front wheel what are the holes in the flange around the brake drum.

Very observant Jimmy . It appears that the wheel had been used as a back wheel on some sort of slider, hence the 19" speedway tire and rim. Those extra holes in  the flange held a sprocket but it's not standard issue.....it's originally a front hub. I reckon its British but what off .

Jim, Rickmans have always used their own hubs since late in the MK3... 7" magnesium. Prior to that I suspect they used skimmed Matchless on the front and BSA QD or Triumpg conical on the rear. I'll check my Antig hubs in the morning.....I never thought of that .
