Thanks VMX60, black frame but the mustard tanks were earlier than 73, this is a 380 with the blue tank, i assume they were either steel or fiberglass but don't know for sure

All 1973 were thin fibreglass, a one-off shape you'll see in all the ads. Check the Aussie fibreglass workers as I can't remember where I got mine reproduced

Maurie,

I have an original 1973 250 we are doing up now. It has a red coffin tank and radial head -   5speed. the front mudgard that looks as old as the bike was made of fibreglass and ugly. Long sideded and narrow. The rear guard on the bike is metal and the inner guard is fibreglass.  The yellow tank model without the radial head could very well be different.  all the best Pete

Pete would you be able to post a pic of that fiberglass front fender. I am pretty sure that is what came stock on the 73 and would like to replace mine with the original style, I am putting stock bars and grips on and then going to sell this one. It is almost all original except for bars and fender and has maybe 20 hrs on it,never been restored and hardly any paint wear or chips, just far to original to turn into a racer.

Dave are you sure as most info I have found is that the 73 380 blue tank came with a white fiberglass front that was only used for 1 year, I have been told they quit using the metal on the yellow 72 models and that the red frame 74 had a different style front than the 73,
I am trying to get the period correct fender for this restoration

In 1973, I was at the motorcycle expo in melbourne, standing looking at these new machines, the more I think about this, I am wrong about steel guards, the 1973 model guards where fibreglass with a red stripe down the centre of the guard, the front guard was narrow and deep sides, the rear was the same fibreglass white in colour, but the front guard was prone to crack at the mounting point. I will look for a photo., by 1974 they where plastic.

Dave, Morrie and others,

Sorry for delay to respond. Is the photo of the red tank taken in 1973??? Cause my project looks just like it. Same ugly (useless) front fibreglass guard I had on my bike. I have that original fibreglass guard here hanging up. Our CZ project is about to come together. Motor is done, new everything inside - bearings rod seals etc. Polished cases. Frame is blasted, temper colours put on joints and clear powder coated. Have re plated all the original nuts and bolts and bits. Ya gotta love these Communist built bikes. They come up a treat. Oh sorry got away from the ugly front mudguard question.

Yes, The red tank 250 is a 73 model, and the guard that you have is correct for that model.

Maurice,  yes I still have the original front fender. Has been lovingly repaired several times over back in the day when it was being whipped around a race track. too me it looks like plastic icecream container and multiple alloy pop rivets. Classic 1970's look. Worth keeping that way maybe.

I have the original Jikov carb, cable and throttle. the Carb is in great shape.

I am only missing the front fender possibly the throttle cable & rear shocks from being 100% original and unrestored . I have the jikov and the stock bars and grips and steel number plates.
I just need to clean it up a bit and instal those parts and then put it up for sale.
It has never been painted or restored that I can tell.
Here are a couple of pics taken on my cell phone
