RM 500 E Resto.
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:59:06 am »
The story so far ; last year picked up a 1984 RM500E in poor condiction for nothing from a nice fella at Meriwah, was there to swap a pee wee 50 for a yz 60. It was missing the rear wheel, shock was clogged with what I can only imagine as mud, swingarm was flogged out, but it had a bottom end rebuild. Off home we trundle, once home I measured the bore size in at 89mm, so top end was flogged out as well :'(. So off to Greg Ball engineering for a brand new sleeve(which he had to make from scratch) new STD piston kit. So Im back to a brand new motor with a little tidier ports, sent swingarm off to Franklin Engineering to rebuild the bearing housing and fit new bearings on the swingarm(which I'm still awaiting it's return, Phil is good.. but slow ::)) Now for the rear shock, I had found what I thought was a good fellow who knew shocks" Yeah mate I can rebuild anything" he got my shock pulled it apart then rings me up and says come get it I cant fix it and you owe me $90...F@@ken theif. Anyway there was a happy ending to the shock, a fellow member through myself a bone and said he could fix and true to his word he came through( A big thanx to Jas "Project D" a weath of knowledge and parts ;D)
All plastics are NOS from Suzuki Aust., as are any nuts bolts etc.( I've kept all parts bags for proof)except for fairing bolts I've changed them out to S/S allen key bolts. Also got a rear hub of Jas, which is being laced up at Chivo's here in Sydney, front forks full rebuild, front rim was in good condiction so just a new set bearings and brake pads for it. It has a full Pro-Forma system from Les at VMX Unlimted as well a new seat cover.
It's taken a little longer than I would have liked, but with kids, wife and with dirt track  it's gets hard ( as I know you all have felt it)
Thanx

Not having a crack at you mate im just stating the facts on that ebay page.
Looks like the frames been spray painted a few times over in black and yellow.
If it didnt have a badly damaged case id buy it at that price.
Its only just up the road too about 15 minutes away.

Hey Hoonstar long time no see.
I too like the look of those RM500s or any big bore for that matter from the 80s.
Been looking around a bit more on oz ebay and found another 84 RM500
but this ones going for $10,000 looks nice though.
Any one interested in a 85 RM500 roller theres one on marks swap meet for $450 cheap.
Now thats a rare bird indeed.

Nice bike but you "d think for the price they could put the correct tank stickers and source genuine Suzuki plastic for it......
