The times they are a changin
« on: August 14, 2007, 02:51:06 pm »
There's been plenty of discussion before about the throw away culture of Asian pitbikes, modern attitudes to maintenance, and even how much the modern rider knows or wants to know about his bike. This might put it all in perspective...

Interesting that his timing chain has fallen off, but it still starts and runs...  ;D

I gues the collary to this is that someone is about to have a "I found this pitbike at the dump, put the chain back on, and there's nothing wrong with it!" story.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

In my day youngfella, Victa's nor even Briggs and Stratton ever had such woes.
The biggest issue I had was finding enough washers to jam in the centrifugal clutch to keep it locked solid but then keeping the chain on the sprockets became an issue. Welding was a specialist option and not available to me until my late teens..thank GOD! ;)

You'll have fun Lozza but it frightens me to think that I'm getting older and this is the generation that may have to look after me :o

MY God  :o
i just wasted ten minutes of my life  reading that  dribble.

yeah nathan I noted he  couldnt put the timing chain on  and it still ran. I wonder how he thought he could remove the piston   if he couldnt  put a chain on?

I think that lad is pulling more than peoples legs

just goes to show who  buys  monkey bikes.

I had the miss-pleasure of riding one of those cheap shit pit bikes the other day.... never been so scared on a bike before, the motor was making some interesting noises, the gearbox was trying to match it... i just gave it back. I love watching them rock up to the track, go out for 10minutes, come back broken and watch the old man absolutely spit it and start yelling about build quality....dude what did you expect for $300?? Bike dealers love them, because when they break people usually replace them with something decent from a trusted manufacturer. Cant beat the CRF50

i put a pit bike together begrudging for my neighbour, ' you have bikes can you do it"

at the piont when i put the head set in and realised there where no bearing for the headset, and the headset sat on the lower triple clamp. after pointing this out i was told thats ok weel be fine, he road it up the street and back a few times and we tuned it if you could call it that and after 10 mins the headstem had already chewed its way into the cheap alloy bottom triple clamp ( sure i could make out the words Coke in the metal) that it sat on, after reiterating it was an accident waiting to happen they went insit never to be seen again. unitl about a month later when they saw me loading my bikes in the van for a ride day, and he said i wish i had a bike WTF didnt you have one, "Yer but after a couple of weeks the front end snapped off and they wanted $200 to fix it so its in the shed somewhere now".    PFfffft

I've said this before but we've got a little 150cc Chinese quad down on the farm and in 2 years it hasn't missed a beat. Not one. It cops a pretty severe flogging from kids and fully grown adults including lumpy old me and runs as clean as a whistle and has never had a tune up, or needed one. The only major complaint is that the rims are as soft as butter and bend easy. No worries, they're only $60 to replace, tyre and all. Other friends have bought pit bikes and a couple of mates race those little pocket bikes and none of them have any major complaints. Methinks many of the complaints are from people who've never owned one but have jumped on the "chinese means shit" bandwagon.
Get used to the Chinese, they ain't going away.

bandwagon...pffffftt

Cant say i own one, but the 2 i have had anything to do with where shitters, made from alloy cans i think.   But for under $300 what do you want ? they are made to be disposable and for a little brat that will grow out of a $1,200 Pee wee im with you, they would be perfect.

But Just like all things there are cheap ones and cheaper ones.  I would say the 200 and 150 cc jobs are probally better made, probally have steering bearings too, but the real cheap pocket bikes are just plan cheap, you cant put those little shitters up agains the real pocket bikes ones with the disk brakes, mollosi chambers and slicks that they race, they are 2 completely differant bikes, if so thats a long straw your drawing firko, to be putting them in the same class.  like a real rolex Vs a bali special  ;D

If one was to actually READ and comprehend the posts  on the above link one would or bloody well should realise that  if a total moron like has been mentioned buys and rides one without knowing a thing about mechanics or maintenance and thashes it .. Its gonna break and break fast  and that because  Chinese  pit bikes are made to a price not to a quality ..
Sure you will find people who know how to look after a bike and realise what they are suppose to be used for and they will have extended longevity..They are the exeption not the rule. Others who  run  them at a constant 10.000 RPM  will fill their wizz bin fast.

Get used to it real fast.I'm starting to use the stator rotor rec/reg comb and for about a $100 you can go wrong.Brilliant Connected to a universal programable CDI your in business for $350.About half of a PVL with a 100 times the tuning.
I can also tell you for fact that the Chinese are starting to aim their sights a little higher than pit bikes.

It's not just pit shit. A mate of mine makes a fair whack of money each week checking valves, shimming valves and lubing linkages and such for modern day motoXers. I think even tightens the odd chain. Their Dads are quite happy to pay.
