Is this a true works bike?  Did Glen bell have works bikes like the ones in the USA?
How would you come to the assumption it could even possibly be a works bike? What in the description or in this thread would make you ask? If you read either the description or whats on here, you could easily work out that it's a replica. A replica of a standard yz with the Marlboro colour scheme.

My faded memory of this stuff was once there was allot this stuff being given away. The paint fell off very easy and had to be changed constantly so there was plenty of slightly used stuff.
Dealers could acquire the bikes at the end of the year.  I can remember unpacking creates with ex Team Yamaha bikes and it came with allot of plastics. That bike is missing the Olhins shock but appears to have the forks or an aftermarket set.

I used to own an Ex-Marlboro bike, wish I still had it!

Mine was Peter Melton's 3rd YZ250U for 1988.  When I bought it at the end of '88, it had only done a couple of practice days and the Canberra Supercross.

But they were just like any team bike - handed to the team as required (Peter Melton had 3 YZ250U's allocated to him for 1988), and then when the team decided that bike needed freshening up, all the 'good' bits were transferred to the new bike and the old bike on-sold as a second hand bike to meet the residual cost for the Distributor..

The only give away that mine was an Ex-Marlboro bike was the fact that the numberplates still had Peter's '5' on them, and some of the dayglo paint still survived up under the petrol tank..

Sorry did not read the full description, my mistake . My other questions was, did Glen bell ride full works bikes?  Did Yamaha Australia Crush the bikes or kept them?

Belly didn't have any works bikes, just production with some parts bolted on.

Its come from a private collection and is up for sale....

Duh....don't all old bikes come from a private collection of sorts ::)? This is designed for the potential buyer to think that it's been owned by a "collector". It might be stating the fuc*ing obvious but we're all collectors ;D.

Its well advertised and alludes rather than being specific. It's worth what someone will pay and if gives someone a woody for there pool room at 10k I hope he enjoys it. Means very little to me as I ride mine and I know that the paint falls off these things just getting it off the ute.
My little understanding of these bikes is that cylinders were mostly ported via pro circuit and the motors were balanced and matched. Some had factory suspension some just good aftermarket stuff. If you look close at the rear shock you can see it's the standard shock with the BASS system still attached, All A grade guys disconnected this ASAP so I would really doubt that Bell has even sat on this bike. I also thought that Bell used Simond forks in 87 ( I did race in the same race as him a few times ) those forks are WP's

From the sellers mouth......

Hi Ross,
Great to here you have a debate going, Well it goes like this.
This bike was restored by Geoff holmes who still looks after Glen Bell's bikes today. This is one of Glens old race bikes restored with all of Yamahas nos parts to suit the spec at the time.. Glen would not have signed this bike other wise.Hope you win your debate.

ThanksRuss.

I think the guy can be cut some slack..... ::)

With that in mind the ad reads like it was badly worded rather than written to sneak under the radar

I told you guys earlier that Geoff Holmes built the bike but no one other than Firko was able to comprehend..
I can also tell you that it isn't one of Bellys old race bikes but it does have some parts on it supplied by Glen as I also said earlier and yes I do know where the bike came from..

Restored, brand new, glens old race bike???? What is it??.......I know it's not Glens race bike but in reality I don't really care that much, it's out of my era. I hope it blends in with the curtains in their pool room 8).
My only gripe is that I just don't like seeing things presented as something they're not*. There are a few more members on here, mostly Queenslanders who know (or at least suspect), the real story but don't want to shake up the apple cart online (Except Johnny O who mixes in close circles to where the bike originated).

* I could start a whole thread on misrepresented bikes I've seen and heard of but I'll let it rest for now :D

Just had quick look at the 1987 MR motocross series on youtube
and it shows Glen Bell riding a YZ250T with race numbers 4 not 2  ::)
Queenslander Dave Armstrong was wearing the number 2 plate that year.

The bike's on eBay. He's easy to get hold of. Maybe John should point out the error of this guys ways to him.
Surely someone must be able to get hold of Glen Bell. I'm sure he's not a recluse.

I too don't like miss-represented bikes. Reminds me of the one about the'74 TM 250 that turned out to be a '75.

Maybe we should do a thread on them...... :)

Do I really need to? I can get hold of Belly no problem but I know he's got better things to do than get involved in this shitfight..
