Recently aqquired  this well used , but complete, runner.
   Plenty to do  ::)
 Would really appreciate any info /links to  get hold of some new  gold ( colour close as poss to orig) rims to suit

  KX front disc  brake fitted ;     ( fortunately   with easily removable , clamp style caliper  mount )   
 Standard drum set up, incl in purchase , will be refitted.

That looks exactly the same front brake that Vince Strange used on his 83/84 huskys back in the day.
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

Try huskyjunk.com for a set of rims. They are making reproduction units and their stuff is A grade quality. They are also listed on ebay...

nice machine... 1. download the manual from the website and print it out so you have it on hand... ideal for reassembly. Buy a box of 6mm and 8 mm nylocks...resto is half done already :D

Phil at Husky parts is great, the website has all the stuff you need,

Mick at Bendigo Dirt Bikes is a husky nut as well and has lots of info and experience.

The motor will be like the 490, the handling will be armchair ride....

  Funny you should  say that....... amongst all the new /repro bits I have bought so far  is heap of new fasteners incl  6 & 8mm nyloc stuff.
   
 Progress slow over the past month ; but back into it again very soon .
 
  Should be a tidy rider ;  to have a play on at vinduros  ;D

  Do not see many of these XC500's about .
   
   May be  that  not too many were sold in Aus ,  back in the day ? ?

The XC was designed for the US desert market. big suspension, enduro gearbox but no compliance over here. only the WR's were complied and the CR's didnt need reg. so not to many xc's about.

a bloke i know was a husky dealer for a short period and his first demo bike was an xc like that one. it frightened the crap out of everyone!

once we tightened the engine mounts up and fixed a whole lot of little things it wasnt too bad to ride.

a bloke bought it off him and i can vividly remember him passing me in a ride (race) at the army base like i was standing still (probably was) then i found him half a k up the track staggering out of the bush where it had cartwheeled him into the scrub! :D

the look on his face was priceless.

a few of us converted our wr's by ripping the spacers out of the shox and fitting the long sliders and damper rods. 13"s of magic carpet ride...

 My bike has an Australian Comp plate fitted   ;  worded  "3/83  XC500"   with correct, matching frame No on plate  &  bike  is fittted with longer travel XC suspension .
  Previous owner did say that he had bike registered  .
 
  Perhaps some of these  (XC) bikes were complied  for Aus market back in the day ? ?
