Pro-Tec HL Yamaha

This bikes got a lot of history, being ridden by Ron Lechien but does that add 20k to the value? My 350 Maico's been ridden by Pelle Granquist, Laurie Alderton and Per Klitland so can I add 10k to its value?

That bike had factory forks on it when Johnson rode it, now it just has YZ490 forks.

I spoke to the owner via Facebook, it's the sister bike to the one Johnson rode. 1 of 2 bikes specially built by Protec for Lechein & RJ in the world 4 stroke championships.
Not really comparable to a modern build HL500 repro

Bloody hell, just fancy a 4 stroke winning the 4 stroke world championship. The 4 stroke World Championship I believe was one meeting in the US at the time. A bit like the US based Cow Pat throwing world Championship and the three legged Schnauzer tail chasing world championship. Just a little bit narrow focus I think nothing like eliminating the competition I suppose.

Why didn’t they just race the bikes against open competition?

A bit like with road racing - I asked my (modern) Triumph riding friend "if they are so good, why don't I ever hear of any races being won by Triumphs? Its always Yamaha/BMW/Suzuki/Honda"
"Ah but they do win races" he says "they are "Triumph" races" (you can only ride a Triumph)
