Yep a good year too.

In what way? Bernard told me that it was hard to compete with the riders over there.

Bernie didn't get to have a good passenger, he was quicker than Wally but he wouldn't let us have a go together under any circumstances. We had heaps of issues with the Frenchies as we were touted as Aussie champs ( 3 out of 4 of us were) and they thought we should have been better. What they didn't know or couldn't fathom was that we were from all over Aus. Wally and Darren were from S.A. (and both were drivers) Bernie was from Vic and I am from Qld. That's like putting teams from all over Europe together and thinking they would win-although they do a bit of that these days.
So, in all we had 3 drivers (all Aussie champs as I mentioned ) and one reasonable passenger.
Bernie was behind the 8 ball from the start as after we arrived he went to pick up his new VMC/KTM and found he had to build it from bits. The tank turned out to be off an enduro something or other that we had never seen before ( or since)
We flew home on the same plane and he was still a little befuddled by it all.
Bernie was our best chance of a good thing over there at the time and it just never came together for him. he was so smooth and always on the gas before anyone getting out of turns-a great driver of sidecars.

I do think he would do well to have a go at pre85 or pre90 --just for the FUN of it. It is very theraputic that way, you can relive it a bit and find out that you are pretty much as quick as always-though not for as long  :D :D :D
If you talk to him please say high from me and that I would be keen to have a swing for him at HBBC or something like that. I'll bring the Wasp if needs be.
Thanks.
