SWM TF3 175

I am going to ride My SWM tomorrow   It's taken about 3 weeks to get it running I've had to replace the clutch, make a brake pedal & spending 4-5 hours getting a rag out of the chamber.
Overall the bike was in good nik it looks like the motor has been done up then just left with no oil in the gearbox.
I'll post how it goes.

Well I rode the SWM today for the first time.  It all worked but the bing carb needs a complete rebuild.  Where's the best place to get parts for a bing or would a flat slide mikuni be the go?  All up I like it a lot.

Hi NSR,
That's a great looking bike, and I'm green with envy.  I nearly bought a slightly earlier SWM in Queensland a few years ago, but ended up passing it up and have regretted it ever since.  I have been racing a Can-Am 175 off and on for a while, and the 175 Rotax is a great engine. The SWM looks more trick in the chassis and is probably a better bike.  Do you plan to race it in VMX ?  It does look to be a bit too original to cut up to make a race bike out of.  But the 175 performs surprisingly well even in amongst 250s- at least in the pre-75 and pre78 classes- EVO might be a bit different.  Is the engine very tractable, or pretty peaky ?  I had a ride on Grant's 250GS a couple of years ago and was surprised by how different it was to the 250 Can-Am MX6 which is mellow in comparison.
Anyway, again- a great bike.

It does look trick, I love the look of it,  sorry but you sure can tell between the SWM and Can-am only one is italian . 
It's already a race bike an enduro race bike, it will stay that way as they should IMHO. 
I do plan on racing it soon, some VMX and maybe some proper enduros just for fun.
The motor is in no way scary just fun which is probably why they do alright against 250s.
All that and it steers better than my 03 WR .

Noel is this the bike you had at CD7 ?
If so it ended up real sweet.
As you know I like the noise of 2 strokes and yours stood out as special.

Over the last few months I've been doing a rebuild on the 175. So here it is, ready for another couple of years of racing.

 


The Ohlins shocks are modified Husky ITC shocks which is it's own story:P  I have had the tops hydablasted and put on new gas reservoirs.  Look great and work better.   
   

I could have bought an SWM brake pedal, but I like the modified CR500 one.

Greg at Suncoat Hydrablast did all aluminum.  I don't know what this kick starter is off, but it is definitely the best looking one I have seen on a Rotax motor.


I know the bars aren't kosher, it's just they feel so good when your riding the bike.

The sprocket holes were starting to get flogged out.  So I dilled out the holes out and Locktited a steel sleeve in, I hope like hell this works.

When I bought the bike it came with a heap of parts.  There were a pile of front and back sprockets, but they where all 530   So I got one of my friends with a lathe to turn one of the rears down, I don't think he will do another for me

Well, I would like to take my hat off and say to you that your restoration is great, well done, when you where have trouble getting a rag out of the crankcase, it rang a bell with me, years ago l had the same problem, but mine was a carbie spring, and it took days to get it out. anyway the SWM is beautiful.

The thing with that rag in the pipe was, not knowing it was in there I could not work out why the bike wouldnt go.  So all up that took me about 8hrs to find and fix

Nice job Noel. The kickstart lever comes from an ATK or an Armstrong Canam. Did the new piston do the job for you?
