I saw that Graeme, Flat Track Live have been posting the details on FB.  I'm excited to see that, now I'm not able to get there I can at least check out some of the action this weekend!

Leisk anticipates enjoyable racing at Bayliss Classic
January 17, 2014
MWA Hall Of Fame inductee competing this weekend at Old Bar

Globally-recognised motocross legend Jeff Leisk will be one of the most high profile competitors amongst an all-star field at this weekend’s Motul Pirelli Troy Bayliss Classic in Taree.

Leisk will suit up for the now annual dirt track event for the first time this weekend, the starting grid including a who’s who of racers from motocross, enduro, road racing, speedway, supermoto, dirt track and more.

The talented Western Australian, now general manager of KTM Australia, will pilot a 450 SX-F in the Classic following minimal preparation for the event at the famous Old Bar oil-based circuit.

“I’ve had a couple of days to get some practice, both on a kart track and on a motocross track – it’s not bad planning a day of just going riding!” Leisk commented. “The idea is to enjoy myself but it’s better to get your eye in and enjoy it more.

“I’ve always liked dirt track events like King of the Mountain in Toowoomba and what was probably Australia’s first Supermoto event at Eastern Creek in the early ’90s, and won them both, so it’s a style I like.

Leisk is a major supporter of Bayliss’ events, the triple Superbike World Champion working tirelessly to bring together some of the sport’s current and past contenders.

“I think it’s great what Troy’s doing, he’s putting a lot back into the sport and it’s good to be able to support him and catch up with some mates and have fun as well,” Leisk added. “I rode with him the other day and he goes extremely hard – completely sideways everywhere and he’s a bit of a character.

“Troy’s on a KTM and we’ll be supporting Toby Price, Jason Crump, Angus Reekie, who should go well, and the likes of Antony Gunter in the Legends class.

“My 450 SX-F is awesome – Al Reekie prepared it for me. We’ve kept it pretty simple but it’s easily good enough for the rider! I’m feeling pretty excited, mixed in with some anxiety about the first corner, but hey, someone’s got to get in there first.”  :D  8)

Along with GP race winner Leisk, notable dirt bike names scheduled to appear include Shayne King, Stephen Gall, Phil Lovett, Anthony Gunter, Toby Price, Chris Hollis and more.

Awesome meeting. Great racing, well worth my 2800 klm round trip. Congratulations to Troy Bayliss for the event success and also winning the main race.
I really wish Victoria had some of this type of oiled dirt track event as I'm sure it is the main reason that there are so many great road racers come out of QLD and NSW.
Thank you very much to the forum members that offered assistance on my trip and to those who went out of their way to contact me and catch up over the weekend.

Regards Stan.

Great event but fluck, was it hot! I'm suffering from 2nd degree sunburn and heat stroke today but it was worth it. Congratulations to Troy Bayliss for his big ride. Prior to the meeting he wasn't on many peoples radar as a serious threat but after his bar to bar tassle with Sammy Halbert in the first round we all had a new respect for him and it got better as the day/night progressed.

Congratulations to everyone involved but....I think the meeting's outgrown Old Bar already. The crowd were four deep and to be honest some of the Quickshade snobs were a pain in the arse. We were a bit late getting there (9am) and by then all of the available space was taken up by Quickshades and their owners. Slakey and I managed to find a tight but otherwise excellent spot next to the semi trailer flat bed coming out of turn one but our other three mates, being a bit later than us were up shit creek to find a space. The copped a couple of situations where spectators shoo'd them away from "their area" where a whole Quickshade was for three people ...("we've got mates coming later"). Yeah right, by 3.30 PM their shady 3m x3m square was still only catering to three blokes. A little bit of courtesy and Aussie decency wouldn't have gone astray. We heard other stories of early arrivers hogging space for their (imaginary) mates.  Despite the heat and small percentage of selfish people, the meeting was great and if the momentum continues will soon be one of the big events of the calendar....much like the Ivan Mauger Long Tracks were back in the 90's.

I've known Shawn Giles since he was a little fella and it makes me feel very old to see him coming third in the Legends class. I still see him as 'young' Shawn ::). Crumpy sure picked up some speed from last year, he looked a lot more at home on the oiled track and on a bike with suspension, brakes and a gearbox! His dices with Chris Watson were great.

23 hour day for me,
I did want to watch a few from the spectator hill,
But Sammy and Masa kept us hopping,
Troy deserved his win, he put in such an effort,

Yep, I admit I didn't pick it. I am no guru, but I honestly expected Wiles and Halbert to have it in the bag. Impressed to see that they didn't though!!
