how wide do you need to make a practice speedway track

thinking of building a practice speedway track on a mates block i would have to clear it as well but amongst the trees to deaden the noise,i think the block is 65 meters wide and way long enough

And why haven't I been told?
The standard Rugby League field is 100 X 60m, sounds okay to me.
As long as there is a bit of run off.

Our local track has a full size rugby pitch inside of it although the surface of the track is clay now to suit the cars, most of the other tracks that run solos now seem to have a smaller separate track inside of the main track
Don't think theres an actual size the track has to be

Check out this link Jim, 66 pages of track info from the FIM.
Basically a Speedway track can be between 260m & 425m in overall length and should be approx 10m wide. These are for racing obviuosly but a practice track can be what you can fit in.
I didn't have time to read through all 66 pages but I think you'll get enough info out of that.

Problem with that Mick is that from above its near imposible to make out where the Speedway Track, Short Track or the Dirt Track start and end, it looks like one big clay pan.
I'm looking forward to driving a D9.

as they said make it any size you like if you just having a spin.

Shoot for 10 mtrs wide in the strights and 14m in the corners if you can to get a feel of a normal track.

Best size would be around the 330mt at the pole line, ( which is 1m on the inside of the track)
Any more and its too long/straight and any shorter and you may as well ride a small circle.

If you struggle to figure it out, find the biggest car you can and hook up the longest trailer or caravan you can find.  Drive its around with the car at left turn half circle, then strainghten up, then left turn and so on.  This should give you ruffly the right curve shapes, a feel of how flat the ground is or will need to be.

The straight you can turn left when you get it out of 2nd gear in the car train ;)

prity rough and dirty but be bloody clost to perfect track shape and size - good luck and have a blast   ;D

Oh you guy's crack me up, I think my leg will be safe on a D9.
I've just had a better look at the FIM guidelines and there's a bit more to it Freaky than a National Lampoons Caravan Vacation.
According to there guidelines which is not compulsory, on the scale of radius of bend to length of straight.
Page30
25m radius of bend and a 64m straight gives you a 285m track
30m   "     "      "     "    " 70m     "         "      "    " 330m track

Like i said use the caravan and it will be right.   Rule books and measuring sticks are for Chumps :)
by my 5th grade math that makes 200m unless your using some other pivot point lined radiused arch tied to a sheep and a clothes line. stupid french overcomplicate everythign.

Rev up the caravan i say !!!!  ;)

200m would be like Costa Mesa in the US, too small.
It needs to be as big as possible.
Jim's got a 5L Commodore an a big new boat, that'll do.

P.S. I just got off the blower with the Nepean track curator and the speedway track is approx 300m and the larger Short / Flat track is approx 400m. Both of these tracks are too oval, meaning the straights are too short, the vast majority of speedway tracks in Europe have longer straights than corner dia, ie - 2 - 1.

Yeah mate, good news is that the leg has healed really well, bad news is I need a knee reconstruction.
I'll get two for the price of one next Feb when I get my rod removed.
