Ossa Explorer Engine Specs
« on: October 17, 2012, 02:02:41 pm »
While I'm waiting for parts to finish another bike, I thought I'd pop the top end off the elcheapo Explorer and see what horrors lay in there.  :D
To my surprise, it looks quite good.
The piston looks really good, the bore just needs a hone as long as it measures ok. But it looks and feels pretty good.

The rings, however, are pretty much non-existant and barely touch the sides.  ???
Can anyone tell me where I could find the engine measurement specs? Or even better, is there anywhere online with this info?
The bigend has no up/down play, but lots side to side. Are there supposed to be thrust washers of any sort?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Hey Tony.  Is that the $199 Ossa that was on ebay?  If so then I spied it at CD9 ... didn't look too bad for the money.

Yeah, that's the one, Simo.
After going over it last night, it doesn't look too bad.  We'll see......  ;D

Thanks again, fellas.
But I don't really need another complete bike, just a few parts.

While I've got your attention, is there any way of telling whether my bike is '73, '74 or '75? And does it even matter when it comes to buying parts?

And does anyone know if the engine/gearbox bearings are just garden variety or something special?

Tony

Most of the specs are on this site . piston should have size stamp on crown and the std ring gap is close to 2mm

Std ossa big end has no thrust washers only the Yamaha rod upgrade has the washers

Thanks Paul.
The only bits I'd want off that one would be the front wheel, sidecover and tank badges.

But the Husky motard could be interesting........  ;D

Don't pick on me!  :D

I'm not really into Maico's (which I'll admit is odd cos I love my German cars) but the Monty might be of interest.........  8)
