Ooops! I Did It Again.
« on: April 15, 2008, 03:52:18 am »
I know I shouldn't have, but it's hard for me to pass up a Phantom.  I'm addicted to the Spanish bikes!

It followed me home, can I keep it?

Nice find T-red, if your Mum (Mom) won't let you keep it I have a large yard for taking in strays :D

That's an odd swingarm, it's a banana style arm with the shocks mounted at the rear. Do you think it might be a later arm that's been modified?
I was under the impression that those swingarms were straight.

This bike is very interesting.  At one time in it's past it was modified to be longer travel.  The swingarm was modified for moved up shocks.  To return it to 4" of travel the upper and lower shock mounts were modified.  The swingarm pivot mount was boxed and they added mounts for different foot pegs.  I also found out the engine is actually a 5 speed Stiletto.  The fenders, seat cover, airbox and air filter are all new.  The tank is in great shape, the Works Performance shock are nice and the handmade pipe looks kinda neat.

I have a spare Phantom frame and I will try to find another Phantom engine sometime soon, so the discrepancies did not bother me.  Since everything is not perfect or numbers matching I'm gonna race the piss out of it!  ;D

When and if you crash the OSSA Red, try and lay it down on the right side. That pipe is going to be pretty vulnerable and it won't be long before it looks like shit. Nice bike though.

Superb, pretty and collectable bike Red. You'll have to give us some feed back when you race it. Does it go as good as it looks.

And don't worry about Firko's attempted 'psychic out', they are such a lightweight you’ll be able to save the most extreme situation  ;) and never crash, left or right  ;D.

Firko,

The pipe is not a work of art, but it just makes the bike look different than others.  Phantom number one has a Mid-Valley CZ (M-V) up-pipe and Phantom number two has a Keith Lynas pipe waiting to be mounted, so if I crush the pipe on number three I will switch to one of those.

Hey Red, this is the pipe you need! It's on the barn find '75 Phantom my friend uncovered a few months ago. Retro Cool! Why don't we see snail pipes any more? I had one on a CZ back in the twilight years and like the concept.

The reason why you dont see them anymore is , when dirt spashes up the inside it drys out quick and builds up until there is only a tiny whole left to breathe  . Not a good thing in a 35 Moto . I happend to me .

Hey Firko,

I saw a snail pipe on a Vintage bike at the Brad Lackey's Sand Hill AHRMA National.  I'll look through my pics to see if I can find it.  The rider said it was mostly top end power gain.  I don't think it was a CZ.

Here's a pic of the Mid-Valley up-pipe:

It's a little close to the tender part of your leg.  ;)

Congratulations on No. 3 Red,  nice looking bike.   Not sure you should keep it though, looks to me like an Aussie Stray.  Better check the tag on it's collar.   ;D      Cheers, T250.

Very nice red, you just can't beat that blue and orange colour combo.
I'm in the process of doing a gp 2, but bits aren't exactly growing on tree's here is Oz, if you come accross any engine bit's excess to your needs let me know and I'll take them off your hands at half your asking cash price. Alternative we could use VMX currency......cold beer.
