when you come to fit that front guard to the SMP mount, it looks neat if you cut the flap off and mount the guard the other way around (rounded end at front)

Thanks for the tip, I think I will do that. Should the SMP fenderstay be offset to the front or rear, righ now is it more towards the rear.

I found that with a genuine Yamaha brake cable, fitting the mount offset towards the front made for a nicer cable routing than with it the other way. It may be different with a Venhill cable because they have a straight ferrule where the Yamaha cable has the curved ferrule.
I have noticed that in photos taken in the late 1970s, TYs and Majestys with that style of mount had the mount offset towards the rear, but those mounts appear different to what is being sold nowadays.

   Got a few more things tidied up and now its rideable. Fenders are mounted, both front and rear using the stock stays, I made a front brake cable, grips, headlight , light switch and kill switch. Also now after cleaning out the choke circut in the carb, it starts 2nd or 3rd kick. I just have to fit the seat. Of course the metal pan to fasten seat to the glass base is rotten, so i am going to make a base out of aloy and rivit the cover to the base, that will be todays project.

Thanks for the offer Iain, I got a blank 1/4 aloy plate that i just have to drill the mounting holes into. Just havent got that far yet  i will post photos, likely this weekend. After I get out for a ride in the Snow!
