Your VMX Bucket List
« on: October 07, 2012, 05:59:31 pm »
I only have a few things left on my VMX "Bucket List".

1. Race a Maico, just to see what the big deal is.  :)
2. Find a nice set of Simons UDX forks for my '83 CR480.
3. Ride an HL500 to see how it compares to modern 4-strokes.
4. Find an NOS Answer aluminum silencer for my YZ400D.
5. Find a Mugen 360 motor or kit.

I own most of the bikes I've ever lusted over and have won bike awards, championship plaques and jackets. It has been a fun 8 years involved in this great hobby/sport.  ;D

What's left on your list?
The "Factory Novice"
California, USA

'74 Suzuki TM100, '75 Bultaco 250 Pursang, '77 Honda XR75, '77 Suzuki RM125B, '77 Yamaha YZ400D, '79 Honda CR250RZ Moto-X Fox Replica, '83 Honda ME480RD Mugen

List of wishes re bikes - got mote than enough but space for two more.

1. 1973/ 1974 CZ400
2. 1984 RM 500

List of other VMX wishes -

1. To have raced / ridden in all great VMX strong environments. Farleigh, Diamond Dons, etc
2. To see a VMX International  run in South Africa.
3.  To set up a second home in Sydney and have a few bikes available to ride in Australia ( this is the grand plan) -
4. To ride the New Zealand track I saw in the photos - looks great.
5. to welcome anybody travelling to South Africa to come enjoy Suuuuf Effffrican hospitality and come and join us at a South African VMX event-  should be able to find a bike to loan out.

crabman you forgot 1 thing on your bucket list = To beat the allblacks again

All things on my wish lis are do-able

The thing like South African rugby and beating the All Blacks based on earlier today are a very long shot at this point in time

As discussed previously why not set up the Tri Nations of VMX to b decided yearly at Farleigh - at least South Africa has a chance even if I ride unlike our rugby.

Are you game ?

Crabman, why at Farleigh? Why not on one of those NZ tracks you like in the photos  ;)  ;

Probably the best reason would be that nobody would have a home town advantage / probably the most practical from accessing bikes either loan, rental, or sending your own race bike.
My plan is to buy a bike before Farleigh  - I did and bought two of the USA team bikes and my intention was to leave the twin shock there - subsequently decided to bring it back to South Africa and in January 2012 will look to build / buy a Phil Denton Honda Cr 250

I own or have owned over the years most of the bikes that I've desired. There are, however a few bikes that I could still find room for......
BIKES:
*Rickman Metisse Mk III 650 unit Triumph. I've owned a couple of Metisses over the years that were sold on before I finished them. My upcoming MkIII Petite Metisse Maico will keep me happy though. Then there's the long term Micro Metisse Moto Islo project as well.
*Cheney BSA 500 Gold Star DB34. A gorgeous bike but my Cheney 360 Yamaha will probably have to do.
*1974 OSSA Phantom . I had a basket case but sold it. I'd love one purely for its beauty.
*1973 Yamaha YZ360-A. The holy Grail to us Yamaha guys.
*1979-80 C&J Honda XR500. A very cool looking bike.
*CR500 Honda..Any year. Simply the best, most successful and most fun open class bike ever made.
*Trackmaster 750 Triumph flat tracker.
PARTS:
*Jones DT1 Yamaha clutch cover.
*Norton Roadholder forks....for my pre 60 TRIBSA project.
EVENTS:
* Diamond Dons
*Mid-Ohio
*Farleigh Castle
*Goodwood
*An event in NZ
*San Jose or Sacramento Mile

I'd also like to be 20 years younger and well enough to enjoy the above to their best potential. I won't get the years back but the health's slowly returning. ;D

Buy and own that manicured golf course ,mark out a few circuits and let all VMXers to enjoy ;)
With Firko on the 1974 Ossa Phantom and his superb idea off a Metisse  with W1sa Kawasaki power! (But would take a Metisse Matchless...mmmm
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Ooh man, so many bikes, so little time.....

For me:
To finish my Montesa VB 250 and race it. Actually, to race again, anything, anywhere.....
To own and race a Montesa 414
Spend a week greenlaning in the UK on a BSA whatever.
Ride offroad in Spain
Ride the Baja peninsula
Race the Catalina GP [If they ever have it again]

Regards
David

mmm

There is space for a traditional G80CS or G85 Mk3 Metisse in the garage.  Mag 7 inch Rickman rear wheel with matched 6 inch front with a set of their later big forks in there for good measure.  I think I would like it in British Racing Green.

Not a big cc, methanol burning new build fancy pants F1 technology inside motor (although all of that would be nice) but  nice original time piece that can be dragged out for the occasional blast in a field.

Motor on R of course with an extra splash in the fuel just for good measure!

(rode one on my 18th birthday in Namour (not the Citadel, it was just up the road) that a great friend loaned me, back in the BC (Before Children) days when me and my Dad used to go on road trips all over Europe racing old bikes.  Great Fun!)

Too long to list, but I would love to lay my hands on my favorite ride of the early years

1975 RH250

I fell in love with the bitsa US Suzuki built up for me to ride at the HSMX, LA Colesium and preferred that to my RM250B as being way more powerful and a lot more fun to ride. 250 Intermediate and I was laying down faster laps than many of the pros the following night.

Have to sling a leg over a GP440 Maico to see what everyone was talking about and Farleigh needs a revisit at some stage.

Lotto list

RM125S
75 RH250
Pursang 360 MK IX
Falta Replica 400
Poke that bone back in and wrap it up tight sport - I am racing the second moto.
