Paint Code or name for YZ250H Swingarm
« on: August 13, 2007, 10:08:50 am »
Anyone got a paint code or name paint for use on swingarm (way too much to polish).  Sounds like a silly question, but there are probably about a million versions of silver out them and half of them would probably look wrong.  Any and all help gladly received TIA  ;)

I just used 'Silver Aluminium' and it looks pretty good 250H, but think about putting on an etch primer first and a clear coat or 2 when ya have finished.

Thanks DJ.  Is there a particular company that makes that stuff.  There is a local supplier of POR15 products up here.  They reckon the glisten clear is magic - I'm going to coat all my plated/polished bits in that to stop oxidisation.  I might see if they have a silver colour 'cause I think there are incompatibilities betweem acrylics and enamels (and acrylic enamel and others).

Trial n error 250H is the name of the game when it comes to painting. I just picked a spray can that looked as close as possible. If I was you I would try the POR15 and see what it looks like.

yeah i thought about painting the swingarm but decided not to after using paint stripper to find that the natural finish is quite good , i just used wet and dry to get the rest of the paint off and walla 2hrs later i have a great looking swingarm, all you need to do after racing is wash it off with $1.99 degreaser from super cheap and it still looks great , why paint i say. ;D hey ill try to post a picture then you can see whats in my shed.

I was going to polish mine originally, but after sanding the rims for hours and hours and friggin' hours I thought better of it >:(.  26 years worth of stone chips takes a lot of effort to get out.  There has got to be a better way than wet and dry.  I wonder how the pro's do it??? There's a fair bit of chain damage on my swingarm that I have smoothed out with the rotary tool (the best tool I have ever bought). What you are talking about might be a good compromise boney. I remember vaguely someone mentioning a specific paint colour ( I think it was someone from the US) but I'm buggered if I can find it again.  It was the guys that do the full on restos with lots of NOS stuff.  Old School or something like that.  I have found the link where they did an awesome 465, but they did a 250H also and that's here they mentioned the paint colour.  I could go off trying colours, but the swingarm has been an absolute bitch to strip the first time - I don't want to go through that sh1t again.
I like your idea boney.  Get that photo up mate and let's have a look.  I think my swingarm is a bit too bady damaged to polish, but half way there could be the go.
Sounds like we have the same crap taste in bikes - it's starting to get spooky  ;D ;D ;D ;D

na na na , dont polish it just take the paint off and hit it wit some wet and dry , my swingarm for the 125 h has the same wear but look how it turned out , look hoe clean it is , my mate with the 250 h did the smae and he says use a little silicon spray after washing and nothing sticks the next time you ride, wash off with $1.99 degreaser and spray with silicon or even wd40, i did not spend hours doing this just a couple of beers ;D it is not polished as i did not want that look , i cant wait till end of season to get stuck into my 250g,cheers bonehead ps the pics are there.

Sorry mate - pics didn't come up when I looked at it last time.  Looks good - mine is a bit more knocked around than that.  I'll give it a go though.
What's the roadie in the top left of the picture - looks Honda to me - VTR ??
