its MINE new project DT2MX

Ok it now only has the frame, motor , tank , seat and triple clamps but its now MINE.

Looks like they tried the laid-down shock trick.  Is that a DT-1 type rear wheel?

Mine is about 3 back in the que, but I'm grabbing up parts now.  Happy hunting!

You beauty Iain, you finally got one. By the look of the shipping address on the tank it's a US import, am I right? The missing wheels and forks are the easiest things to replace, they're identical to an MX250. Did you get the side plates? They're the holy grail for DT2MX restorers, really hard to find these days although they do come up on eBay occasionally (for serious money). I've been trying to track down a local Aussie who supposedly makes replica's but I've had no luck. I've been told that an MX250 pipe comes close too.
My DT2MX went to a good home in South Australia but my Hindall lives on as an RT2MX, albeit with no original Yamaha parts except the engine, MX250 tank and rear wheel. It looks like an RT2MX from 20ft away ;D

Mark I found the nos side covers at Beach Yamaha in the US (yes they cost a sh#t load of money to quote Bruce ) . I then sent them to prixhistoric f/glass in Phillip Island to copy .http://www.prixhistoric.com.au/prod_v_yam.html , item #3 on the page  . Iain

Iain....is the right side cover the same or close to as the MX250 version? It sure looks it. Is the original fibreglass or plastic?

No Mark the right side Exhaust is the correct one basically  an oval with a bulge for the exhaust and a couple of vents , the left side is very close to the mx 73/74 but without the bulge for the exhaust . both are f/glass originally .

They must have sold a bunch of them in '72 because the Elsinore didn't come out until '73 and what other reasonably priced 250 MXers were out there?  

All the '72 magazines I have comment on the great looks and affordability of the DT2MX (nobody was too keen on the powerband though).

hahaha - We'll need a secret handshake and everything...   ;D

Found it in SE Washington State...  Decently priced too. 

I liked it's originality most of all.  Fairly low hour bike, and all the major bits are still there..

I can remember dealers being stuck with them and having to discount big time just to offload them before the new MX250 was released. I can recall a guy in my club buying a supersceded DT2MX/RT2MX pairing for not a lot more than one MX250 would have cost him. I don't know about the USA but down here they were a bit of a floperoo. The magazines of the period (both US and Aussie) pretty much slammed everything about them except their finish and reliability. The handling and peaky power copped the worst of it for the 250 but the 360 engine got pretty good press.

The bloke I bought it from also has an even better RT2MX - but I haven't managed to convince him to sell it to me yet....   ::)

Freaks  ;D...I remember back in NZ in 75 when I left school and started working in a Yamaha/Triumph shop they where just wrecking everyone of those that came in......junked em all....I even chopped up an exhaust off one for my brand new DT250B.....they are history though....along with those great early TM Suzuki's...LOL.
