1964 Greeves 250 find.
« on: September 28, 2012, 03:00:45 pm »
There's been a strange but welcome resurgence in interest in the pre 70, pre 65 and even pre 60 classes lately. This beautiful old barn find Greeves will soon see action in the pre 65-250 class with its  new Klub Kevlar member owner on board. It's a nice addition to his eclectic collection. This is just another pin in the baloon of those ' Neddy Negatives' that reckon there are no early bikes left to be found. They're out there...trust me.

I guest it will become a shed queen only and never raced
The plan is that it'll most definitely be raced. The owner just got rid of a big dollar shed queen so I don't think he needs another.

I have even had the opportunity to toss a leg over the old girl ;)  and surprisingly enough it felt quite comfortable.

I've never ridden one but I've been told they handle great, much better than you'd think.  I think Dave'll have a ball on it, I just hope he doesn't restore it, I reckon the patina is just great. Just fix the seat, tidy everything else up, get the suspension dialed in and the motor going and then race the old bugger. They're only original once.

Greeves Mk1 as a rule don`t have a very good gearbox.

Used to own one in the days - change second gear every 2-3 race meetings, but good to ride.

Got to say it wont get too much of a resto, its just so complete and original I think just the seat and tank; I might just see if Old Burt up the road can go over the engine. It has a new Barum front that the owners son tells me his Dad fitted in 1971, going to leave it on too!
Came with a later engine, the original books and purchase information from the dealer in Woolongong, pullers, tuning records, a number of other spares and tools - has to be the shed find of the year.
pre 65 2 smoke here we come

It should have the white fibreglass mudguards back and front.
Otherwise a good basis of a Greeves. Good to see more in use.
