Jeez that's sad. Without doubt one of the hardest buggers I've seen on a roadrace track. Made his name on the Bol d'Or TZ350 in the late 70s and confirmed it with some wicked rides on the awesome big-bore Syndicate Z1 Kawasaki superbike. Unknown to many he'd had a hand mangled by an hydraulic hose failure on an earthmoving machine he was servicing and how the little bugger hung on to a racebike defies belief. Achieved legendary status for his fearless racing in the wet to win the 1980 Castrol Six Hour, partnering Wayne Gardner on the Peter Molloy-prepped Triple M CB1100R Honda, ensuring an open door at Honda for future rides on GP machines of the era. His son Shannon carried on the race tradition, and Ajay was threatening a comeback to the Island Classic on a GSX1100 only a couple of years ago, so to hear this today was a big shock. One of the best.  :'(

Tragic news.
Watched him many times in the early ‘80s. Even got lapped by him heaps of times.

A true legend. You would have to look very hard to find a harder racer but fairer guy on a race circuit.

Loved watching him in the Swann Series at Surfers Raceway battling Mal Campbell and others, a real hard charger.
RIP

Sad news.  :-[

I only saw him race half a dozen times and the bloke always had guts!

Bloody unlucky too. Didn't a horse give as much grief as any motorbike at some stage?

RIP AJ

sad news indeed. great rider loved watching him on the Honda Australia V3 500. Had that hand injury that never slowed him down.

Sad loss of an Aussie road racing hero.
