68 and 69 DT1 250 colours
« on: April 11, 2008, 08:08:00 pm »
Can anyone tell me the colours for 68 and 69 DT1 250’s? Is the 68 only white and the 69 only gold? Could you get a white 69 model or were they only white for the 68 model? I want to know if it is technically wrong to paint a 69 white.

it should have a black pin stripe on the tank shouldnt it?. a customer came in with what we have worked out to be a 69 model as the gauges are the same size but he would prefer it to be painted white if the 69 had a white option. but if the 69's were only gold then he wants to do it correctly and paint it gold. does anyone know any good yamaha DT1 websites with info?

The '68 was the only white one. My DT1 is painted a Mazda white with a light pearl clearcoat as per the original. Unfortunately the bloke who painted it has gone to ground so I can't give you the absolute correct paint recipe.

Shown below are both of my DT1s. The gold is Candy Apple Tangerine available from Pheonix Lacquer in Sydney.

thanks Firko and Greg and VMX247. so it should be the gold and not white if its the 69. Is that gold colour the exact correct match? is it actually a orangish gold like in the photos? are the photos a true indication of colour?

any idea where to get new black tank badges?

on one of the links above the gold one has a white pin stripe. did they come with black or white pin stripes?  by the sounds of it the one with the white is a complete un restored bike but since it had white pin stripes that threw me.

new tank badges for the DT1? there about, but be prepared to mortgage the home,
but should you happen apon an affordable source, i too would be interested in that.
my RT1 currently has the incorrect tank and i've got an origional i'm going to fix up in sky blue {just cause i like the colour}. i've found an ebay seller in hong kong that does repro badge style stickers. they're not an exact match but should do ok for what i want them for. but origionals? anyone?

Leith I'm pretty sure the orange tank is correct. The stripe should be black. Having said that, I have seen white stripes as well so maybe they had a mid model stripe change??? I got the tank as a NOS item from Victoria back in the early 90s and not knowing any different, thought it was correct. It didn't really matter though as the bike is a race bike and not a concourse resto like the white one. I got my reproduction tank badges on eBay from either J Groom or Speed and Sport for $100 a pair. I have the correct black badges on the white bike and the red background version on my RT1 tank. The badges on the orange DT1 are genuine factory badges I paid $100 each for back in the late 80s/early 90s. The reproductions are as good if not better than the originals. They pop up all the time on eBay but I've lately noticed that the prices are going up.
Below is my '68 DT1 with the incorrect gold tank it came with when I bought it from the Geoff Eldridge estate. At some time in its life someone had switched to a later rank and trim. Note the black stripe and black badges and different sized gauges. I have the wrong RT1 badges on my race 'DT1 from Hell'.

yeah might give Max a call. if its cheaper than about a $460 paint job then it might be the better option if its not scuffed up. i was looking at one of the links above and there is a site with a NOS gold tank and it has a white stripe. so i guess they had an option of white or black stripes so we will have to decide on which way to go

I was wondering if any one can tell me what the overall differences are for 69 DT1 – ‘B’ and 69 DT – ‘S’?

What does ‘S’ and ‘B’ stand for?

Also does any one know if Australian model 69 DT-1 had painted headlight brackets and oil tank the same gold as the tank and headlight shell? I have seen many bikes in USA that have gold oil tanks and gold headlight brackets but as many people would know you doent always believe what you see on American bikes. Did Australian models only have gold tanks and headlights and not gold oil tank and headlight brackets. I think an article in vmx says that they have silver headlight brackets.

Also on the tank stripes perhaps USA had white stripes and Australia had black? Does anyone know for sure? Was there an option in 69 or maybe different batches had different stripes?

Thanks for the help

ok i finally found out the differences are.

the DT 1 'S' means its a station bike/farm type version. the gear boxes were different and a few other things. when i find out exactly from the owner i will put the other differences up here
